BYD Applies Automotive-Grade Thermal Management Technology to Megawatt Flash Charging Piles
BYD has completed a cross-disciplinary technological innovation by transplanting its mature vehicle-mounted cooling system into its self-developed megawatt-level flash charging piles, relying on an automotive-grade active cooling solution to solve the long-standing heat dissipation challenge in high-power fast charging. This solution reuses whole-vehicle thermal management technology validated across millions of production vehicles, eliminating the intermediate heat exchange step found in traditional liquid cooling. Cooling efficiency is significantly improved, enabling precise control of temperature differences among various components within the charging pile, with equipment utilization increased by approximately 15%.
Thanks to this innovation, the flash charging pile can stably support 1,500 kW peak power output, delivering approximately 400 km of range in just 5 minutes of charging. The charging gun weighs only 2 kg, allowing ordinary users to easily plug and unplug with one hand. In -10 degrees C low-temperature environments, paired with the intelligent temperature control system, charging speed can still be increased by 50%, achieving stable all-climate operation. Meanwhile, after removing redundant cooling liquid pipelines, equipment leakage risk is reduced and maintenance costs are lowered accordingly.
Currently, the 100 highway flash charging stations jointly developed by BYD and Henan Transportation Investment have completed commissioning and acceptance, meeting conditions for operation. The subsequent large-scale deployment of ten-thousand-level flash charging stations is progressing in an orderly manner. This technology not only breaks through the thermal management coordination barrier between vehicles and charging piles but also explores an entirely new technological path for the new energy replenishment industry, which will further alleviate users charging anxiety and provide solid replenishment support for the popularization of new energy vehicles.
