Ultra-Fast Charging Stations: Shenzhen Supercharging Network Surpasses Gas Stations
The 2026 International Digital Energy Expo is set to open in Shenzhen on September 15. The supercharging ecosystem is evolving from single charging piles to a complete industry chain covering passenger vehicles, heavy trucks, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction. The number of supercharging stations in Shenzhen has already exceeded the number of traditional gas stations.
As of July 2026, Shenzhen has built over 1,200 supercharging stations, surpassing the number of traditional gas stations and becoming one of the cities with the highest supercharging density globally. Huawei's megawatt-level supercharging technology achieves a maximum power output of 1.44 MW, enabling "5 minutes of charging for 100 kilometers of range," significantly reducing the charging time for commercial vehicles such as electric heavy trucks.
The network coverage is expanding downward: supercharging stations have extended from urban arterial roads to community and park settings. Examples include BYD's flash charging stations in parks and Yumiaochong's two-wheeler charging stations in Chongqing communities, achieving full-category charging coverage.
On the technology front, 800V high-voltage platforms have become the technical foundation for the new generation of ultra-fast charging. Models such as the XPeng G9 can support up to 480kW charging power, enabling supercharging piles to deliver full power performance. Mainstream electric vehicles show a stepped decline in charging power as battery level increases. For instance, the Model 3 Performance version maintains an average charging power of approximately 155kW in the 20%-70% battery range, and using a 200kW supercharging pile saves about 15 minutes compared to an 80kW standard pile.
The supercharging ecosystem is also diversifying its business models. At the 2026 Digital Energy Expo, passenger vehicle flash charging, heavy truck supercharging, and vehicle-to-grid interaction technologies will be showcased, forming a complete ecosystem chain that has entered the scale application stage. Automakers building their own supercharging piles are simultaneously deploying energy storage systems to mitigate the instantaneous impact of high-power charging on the power grid and improve station operational economics.
In terms of overseas expansion, BYD has launched its first flash charging station in the United Kingdom and plans to build 300 stations by the end of 2026, as China's supercharging solutions accelerate their global rollout.
