Chery Launches Industry's First V2G Large-Scale Operation Station

Recently, Chery Green Energy and State Grid Anhui Electric Power Mingsheng Group held a cooperation signing ceremony in Wuhu, marking the official commissioning of the industry's first Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) large-scale operation station, signifying that V2G technology has moved from laboratory validation to actual large-scale operation.

V2G, or Vehicle-to-Grid, means that new energy vehicles can not only draw power from the grid for charging but also reverse-feed electricity back to the grid. Vehicles function as dispatchable distributed energy storage units. Users can charge during off-peak electricity price periods and return electricity to the grid during peak periods, earning revenue while their vehicles are parked. Under current electricity pricing and subsidy conditions, users' potential annual revenue is estimated to exceed 3,000 yuan.

Chery's V2G system is divided into three technical directions: worry-free electricity sales, super intelligence, and safe durability, with hardware and software covering everything from the vehicle end to the cloud. Both AC and DC V2G are supported, accommodating home, campus, and public charging station scenarios. The commissioned station primarily uses AC V2G, focusing on a "nighttime home charging, daytime station discharging" usage model.

The cloud-based system automatically plans charging and discharging strategies by integrating battery status, user travel plans, electricity prices, and grid load, while also enabling coordinated management of large-scale charging pile clusters. For battery safety, V2G operation is limited to the 30%-80% charge-discharge range, combined with a battery safety system to reduce the risk of battery degradation from bidirectional charging and discharging.

This demonstration station is equipped with 1440kW supercharging equipment, which can add 500 km of range in 5 minutes. The station integrates supercharging, V2G, charging robots, rail charging, and wireless charging, showcasing Chery's technology reserves in charging infrastructure.

This collaboration represents cross-sector coordination between an automaker and a grid enterprise. Chery provides V2G mass production, user, and dispatch technology, while State Grid Mingsheng Group leverages its grid dispatching and operational resource advantages. The two parties aim to create a replicable "vehicle-storage-charging-grid-cloud-carbon" demonstration model.

Chery plans to globally debut V2G functionality on the Chery Fengyun A9 pure electric model in the first half of 2027, deploy supercharging + V2G charging stations in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hefei, and Wuhu by the end of this year, and achieve a global layout of 20,000 stations by 2029.

Multiple automakers are accelerating V2G deployment. Geely'sYuan Cheng Star Share M7E supports V2G with 20kW discharge power. FAW has identified V2G as one of its ten key technology tasks. Dongfeng has launched China's first AC V2G mass-production solution for residential communities. BYD has also mastered relevant technologies and can equip its entire model lineup based on market demand.

Industry insiders believe that whether V2G can be widely adopted depends on two calculations: how much owners can earn, and what benefits city grids receive. According to Chery, the Fengyun A9 can discharge 24 kWh of electricity for 39 yuan in revenue, earning over 1 yuan per kWh. Dongfeng estimates that under ideal conditions, owners could earn up to nearly 5,000 yuan annually through AC V2G charging piles at their own parking spaces.
