China's First Central SOE-Led Autonomous Heavy Truck Convoy Begins Road Testing on Jingxin Expressway

On August 30, China Railway Construction Investment successfully conducted a "1+4" autonomous driving electric heavy truck convoy test on the Jingxin Expressway, marking the first time a central construction enterprise has led the development of mainline autonomous heavy truck convoy technology ready for road testing and practical application.
The project is listed as a key research topic by China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC). China Railway Construction Investment collaborated with prestigious domestic universities including Peking University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Lanzhou University, Shenyang Aerospace University, and Southeast University, along with industry-leading enterprises such as Zhejiang Geely New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group, Mainline Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and Wuhan Changjiang Communication Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., as well as the First Railway Survey and Design Institute (FSDI) and more than 10 other units. After seven years of continuous technical research and collaborative development, the team built a highway autonomous driving logistics vehicle dispatch platform, formulated two enterprise standards, and developed a mature, deployable mainline logistics autonomous driving technical solution.
The project conducted scenario testing on a 65-kilometer demonstration section of the Jingxin Expressway, covering normal operation, fault handling, special working conditions, and abnormal situation response. This further validated and optimized the feasibility of autonomous driving technology and commercial application for commercial vehicles in highway mainline scenarios, producing deployable, quantifiable, replicable, and scalable technical results.
Upon application, the results will address the industry pain point of "vehicles waiting for roads, roads waiting for vehicles," contributing to comprehensively improving highway asset utilization efficiency, reducing logistics costs across society, enhancing traffic efficiency, and establishing AI-powered digital logistics and zero-carbon logistics corridors.
