China's First Integrated Coal Mining and Stripping Autonomous Truck Project Completes Scale Validation
Recently, China's first integrated "coal mining plus stripping" hybrid autonomous truck project, implemented by Cidi Intelligent Driving at the Xinjiang Jilangde open-pit coal mine, has achieved significant operational results. As of August 2026, 117 Cidi autonomous mining trucks formed 15 normalized operational fleets, with unmanned transport accounting for 53.6% of total transport, cumulative safe driving mileage exceeding 3.9 million kilometers, completing 23.63 million cubic meters of overburden stripping and 1.967 million tons of raw coal transport, executing over 520,000 transport tasks.
This marks Cidi Intelligent Driving's transition of China's mining autonomous driving technology from "demonstration lines" to "main battlefields," from single-point trials to cluster operations.
Autonomous Fleet Reshapes Production Models
In the traditional production model, transport positions operate three continuous shifts, with nighttime fatigue driving, poor visibility, and slope rollback risks long plaguing mine safety management. Cidi's scaled autonomous fleet enables 24-hour continuous operations, with equipment attendance rates approaching 100% and comprehensive utilization rates stable above 95%. Combined with intelligent perception and lighting control systems, production can continue under nighttime, foggy, and other low-visibility conditions, with daily effective operating hours increasing by 4 to 6 hours compared to traditional models.
Notably, this project is not unmanned operation in a single "stripping" or "coal mining" segment, but rather China's first integrated "coal mining plus stripping" hybrid autonomous truck project. Cidi autonomous trucks and manned vehicles share the same routes for cross-traffic and collaborative loading and unloading, with high-risk mixed traffic and cooperative operations exceeding 100,000 cumulative executions, pioneering the transition of autonomous driving from trial operation to mainline production.
Intelligent Perception Builds Safety Foundation
Open-pit mining scenarios are far more complex than urban roads, with cross-traffic, narrow passage, slope merging, and collaborative loading and unloading testing the system's perception, decision-making, and cooperative control capabilities. Cidi integrated environmental perception and intelligent scheduling algorithms to build a highly responsive autonomous decision control system capable of quickly identifying on-site environmental changes and making autonomous safety decisions.
The system has autonomously identified and handled over 10,000 risk incidents, with most occurring during nighttime and low-visibility periods when manual operations pose higher risks. The project built an integrated intelligent prevention platform covering personnel, equipment, and operating environments, connecting vehicle collision avoidance, personnel positioning, and production scheduling systems. The dispatch center can monitor real-time personnel and equipment positions, transforming scheduling from traditional experience-based to data-driven visual scheduling.
For communication assurance, Cidi developed a stable operating mechanism under varying communication conditions, relying on incremental updates, distributed self-organizing networks, vehicle-shovel V2V cooperation, vehicle-vehicle V2V cooperation, and distributed scheduling technologies. Even under weak network or local outage scenarios, core operational processes continue to function, ensuring stable unmanned transport system operation in mines with complex communication environments.
As of the end of June 2026, domestic autonomous mining truck driving system cumulative shipments reached nearly 8,500 units (sets), with expectations to exceed 10,000 by year-end. The Coal Industry Development "15th Five-Year Plan" proposes raising the proportion of intelligent coal mine capacity to 75% by 2030. Industry forecasts suggest 2026 full-year domestic shipments may exceed 10,000 units (sets), as autonomous mining trucks enter a new cycle of scaled growth.
This platform focuses on the import and export of Chinese automotive equipment, gathering hundreds of certified Chinese automotive suppliers and connecting with global buyers. The platform achieves full transaction transparency, expands diverse cooperation opportunities, and helps both domestic and foreign parties build deep and stable cooperation bonds.
