2026 Construction Machinery Industry Market Development Status and Trend Analysis
Construction machinery, traditionally regarded as a barometer of cyclical infrastructure investment, is undergoing a fundamental transformation in 2026. The industry has decisively shed its label of "competing on sales volume of excavators and loaders," evolving into a high-end equipment battleground driven by three forces: equipment renewal underpinning domestic sales, surging exports as the primary growth curve, and electric loaders surpassing 50% domestic penetration, alongside the deployment of unmanned mining trucks and fleet coordination systems.
The market is transitioning from "competing for share through scale" to "electric-intelligent integration + global localization + after-market full-lifecycle services." Companies with electrification platforms, unmanned construction systems, integrated overseas R&D, manufacturing and service capabilities, and breakthroughs in core hydraulic and electronic control technologies are capturing both cyclical recovery and global substitution dividends.
From January to June 2026, major industry enterprises sold 152,320 excavators (up 26.4% year-on-year) and 82,052 loaders (up 26.7%). From January to May, total import and export trade value reached USD 28.911 billion (up 19.5%), of which exports accounted for USD 27.902 billion (up 20.8%). Equipment from the 2016-2021 sales peak is entering the 8-10 year replacement window, and RMB 200 billion in ultra-long special treasury bonds and "two-new" equipment renewal funds are driving domestic replacement demand.
On the demand side, four drivers are at work: equipment renewal, non-property infrastructure, global mining and Belt and Road projects, and electric-intelligent substitution. Domestic demand has shifted away from real estate toward water conservancy, urban renewal, mining, new energy bases, high-speed rail along the Yangtze, and hydropower projects. Overseas, African mining, Southeast Asian industrial parks, Middle East urban construction, and Latin American mining projects continue to grow rapidly, with exports to Africa increasing 51.7% year-on-year from January to May, and Belt and Road countries accounting for approximately 43% of exports.
Electric loaders sold 25,443 units in the first half of 2026 (up 82.4% year-on-year), with domestic loader electrification penetration exceeding 50% and reaching over 60% in June alone. While electric excavators remain small in base (321 units in H1, up 129%), technology spillover is certain. The industry consensus is that "electrification + intelligence + after-market services" is the main thread of this demand restructuring, and companies relying solely on diesel mini-excavator price wars without overseas service networks are becoming irrelevant.
On the supply side, the market is consolidating around "one superpower, multiple strong players, and specialized segments." Leading companies including XCMG, SANY, Zoomlion, Liugong, Shantui, and Lingong generally have overseas revenue accounting for 40%-60% of total revenue. SANY achieved overseas revenue of RMB 32.04 billion in H1 2026, representing 61.33% of main business revenue, with an overseas gross margin of 32.5%. XCMG has commercialized over 600 L4-level unmanned mining trucks, and Zoomlion has connected more than 710,000 devices to its IoT platform.
