National Day Highway Charging Hits Record: +60.4% YoY(Oct 8)
National Day Highway Charging Hits Record High: 28.05 Million kWh, Up 60.4% Year-on-Year
Record-Breaking Holiday Charging Data
According to the National Energy Administration, based on statistical analysis of 62,700 highway charging facilities (guns) included in the national charging infrastructure monitoring service platform, the national highway charging volume on the first day of the National Day holiday reached 28.0469 million kWh, up 60.40% from the first day of last year's National Day holiday, setting a new historical record for single-day holiday charging.
In the first three days of this year's National Day holiday, national highway NEV charging sessions totaled 2.9686 million, averaging 989,500 per day, up 48.41% from the same period last year. Total charging volume reached 71.6193 million kWh, averaging 23.8731 million kWh per day, up 49.39% year-on-year. The penetration rate of green travel during holidays continues to rise, with an increasingly evident trend of people using NEVs for long-distance travel.
Charging Infrastructure Scale and Growth
National charging infrastructure continues to grow rapidly. As of the end of August 2026, the total number of EV charging facilities (guns) reached 24.223 million, up 39.6% year-on-year. Public charging facilities totaled 5.16 million, up 19.5%, with a total rated power of 262 million kW and an average power of approximately 50.69 kW per gun. Private charging facilities reached 19.063 million, up 46.3%, with reported installed capacity of 163 million kVA.
Policy Targets and Market Outlook
The National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration have issued the "15th Five-Year Plan for New Power System Construction," proposing that by 2030, total charging infrastructure will exceed 40 million units, with approximately 3 million high-power charging facilities, forming charging service capacity supporting over 110 million EVs.
NEV production and sales performed excellently in August, with both monthly output and sales achieving year-on-year and month-on-month growth. The cumulative penetration rate for January-August reached 52.4%. As of the end of June, national NEV ownership reached 48.97 million, accounting for 13.19% of total vehicles, up 2.92 percentage points year-on-year. Pure electric vehicles accounted for 33.675 million units, or 68.77% of total NEVs. In the first half of the year, 5.195 million new NEV registrations represented 49.42% of total new vehicle registrations, up 4.45 percentage points year-on-year.
The State Council's "15th Five-Year Plan Carbon Peak Action Plan" designates the period as a critical phase for carbon peaking, setting quantitative decarbonization targets for transportation: by 2030, NEVs should account for 30% of total vehicle ownership, and new energy vehicles should comprise 25% of commercial vehicle fleets. Southwest Securities research notes that China's charging pile market is transitioning from pursuing construction speed to emphasizing high-quality development. Local governments are introducing supportive policies for charging pile construction, encouraging forward-looking deployment, and the charging pile market share is expected to expand further.
