XCMG New Generation Electric Heavy Truck: 24-Hour Endurance Test Covers 2,198 Kilometers
In the electrification of commercial vehicles, heavy trucks are a difficult piece to place due to their strong "boundary constraints." XCMG Motors is preparing to answer this question. On September 20, XCMG will hold a global launch event for its new generation electric heavy truck. Designed for long-distance trunk logistics, this electric heavy truck conducted the industry's first 24-hour endurance test prior to the launch event. Running at a full load of 49 tons in a real operational rhythm through day and night cycles, it covered 2,198 kilometers continuously, using authoritative and professional testing to answer the freight industry's common question: can electric heavy trucks run trunk routes?
Breaking Through Trunk Logistics: Range and Replenishment Rhythm
To truly succeed in trunk logistics, two hurdles must be overcome: range and replenishment. In the past, many electric heavy trucks simply stacked more batteries. Larger battery capacity means higher theoretical range, but it also consumes payload capacity, directly compressing operating margins. Moreover, even with large batteries, if charging efficiency cannot keep up, lengthy charging times render impressive range figures merely paper data. The ideal state for trunk transport is that vehicle replenishment time matches the driver's work rhythm, with charging and driver rest synchronized to minimize idle waiting.
The XCMG new generation electric heavy truck adopts a 612 kWh large-capacity battery, equipped with an 800V high-voltage platform and megawatt-level supercharging, achieving a charge from 20% to 80% SOC in under 20 minutes. This 24-hour endurance test verified the high compatibility of the large-capacity battery plus megawatt-level supercharging combination with real trunk logistics operational rhythms.
24-Hour Test: Comprehensive Vehicle Challenge
When a fully loaded heavy truck begins 24-hour continuous running, it is not only the battery that faces testing. The three-electric system (battery, motor, electronic control) and overall vehicle reliability are directly challenged. During sustained high-speed operation, the battery and electric drive system are in high-rate charge-discharge states for extended periods, cell consistency is magnified under scrutiny, BMS strategies must withstand repeated dispatching, and thermal management must maintain stability over long periods. The weakness of electric heavy trucks often lies not in peak output but in sustained output capability. In this endurance test, XCMG's full-domain thermal management consistently contended with thermal load, and stability was verified.
Running continuously for 24 hours at speeds no lower than 100 km/h, covering 2,198 kilometers, also tested the vehicle's reliability. Could the frame, suspension, and wheel ends withstand repeated impact from alternating loads? Could the high-voltage circuit endure continuous vibration and temperature variations? XCMG's new generation electric heavy truck answered these questions one by one during the test, proving the vehicle's reliability is trustworthy.
