In the new energy era, what else can tire shops do?
BYD announced at a press conference on February 10, 2025 that it will standardize intelligent driving systems in all models from 2025. BYD's intelligent driving systems, such as the "Eye of God" series, reportedly integrate a variety of advanced sensors and high-performance chips.
For example, the DiPilot 100 system is equipped with 5 millimeter-wave radars and 12 cameras, and the maintenance and replacement of these high-tech components require professional technical knowledge and equipment.
At a time when new energy vehicles are becoming more and more popular, manufacturers may start to layout on smart tires with the popularization of intelligent driving. Of course, at the tire shop level, what can be found in the business for new energy vehicles?
1 New Energy Era Maintenance Service
CATL announced the creation of its after-market service brand "Ningjia Service". CATL said that Ningjia Service has set up 112 professional after-sales service stations in the first batch in China, providing users with services including basic battery maintenance, health testing and mobile rescue. In addition, CATL launched the CATL applet to provide new energy vehicle owners with charging network inquiries, car viewing, car selection, and car use services.
The China Automobile Dealers Association issued an announcement that the group standard "Electric Passenger Vehicle After-Sales Service Specification" (hereinafter referred to as the "Specification") was approved for release and will be officially implemented on January 1, 2023. As my country's first after-sales service specification for new energy vehicles, the introduction of this standard will effectively regulate the after-sales service behavior of new energy vehicle manufacturers, improve after-sales service capabilities and service levels, and user experience.
From traditional fuel vehicles to new energy vehicles, the automotive aftermarket faces new opportunities and challenges: the opportunity lies in that new energy vehicles have spawned emerging demands such as power battery repairs, bringing more automotive service opportunities; the challenge lies in that projects such as the maintenance of the three-electric system have put forward new requirements for technicians' technical capabilities and construction environment, and stores need to be fully upgraded and renovated.
In addition, the automobile market has many models and a large number of parts. There are great differences between the after-sales service specifications formulated by various automobile brands, making the after-sales market, which originally serves international cars, more complicated.
2 New Energy-Future Opportunities for Tire Stores
Against the background of "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality", the industrialization of electric vehicles in China is accelerating. A plan released by the State Council predicts that the sales share of new energy vehicles will increase from 5% in 2020 to 20% in 2025.
For the entire automotive industry chain, new energy vehicles mean a new beginning. In the absence of mature foreign technologies to learn from and mature components to purchase, Chinese national vehicle companies have stepped up research and development, innovative exploration, and led a new round of global automotive development.
Deploying new energy vehicle-related products and services, using its extensive service network across the country, and exploring cooperation with new energy vehicle brands to meet market demand are what tire stores need to explore in the future.
