The most complete tire marking
When buying tires, ordinary car owners rarely care about the densely packed logos on the tires. These logos represent the various parameters of the tire, just like when we buy household appliances, there will be instructions, but the instructions of the tires are printed on the tires. The bunch of letters and numbers on the tires are the information of the tires, which include brand, specifications, and some performance parameters, etc.
1. Tire label
Generally, a tire will have a tire label, and you can clearly know the basic situation of this tire by seeing the label. For example, in the picture, the tire brand is Bridgestone, and the tire pattern is POTENZA RE003. The tire specification is 235/45R17 97W. At present, the surface of the new tires sold by regular manufacturers on the market will be pasted with a tire parameter paper, which will show the model, specifications, technology and other information of the tire. You can choose and buy according to the comparison of your own model tire, so you must also look carefully when buying tires.
2. Brand
The brand is the most important logo on the tire. For example, the NEXEN logo in the picture indicates that the brand of this tire is NEXEN. Normally, the first thing ordinary car owners consider when choosing tires is the brand, so the brand logo is also the largest of the many tire logos.
3. Specifications
The passenger car tires currently sold on the market all use the unified sedan radial tire specification representation method of "XXX/XX RXX". As shown in the figure, 225 represents the width of the tire section of 225mm, 45 represents the aspect ratio of 65%, R represents radial radial tires, and 17 represents the inner diameter of the tire (wheel hub diameter).
When purchasing new tires, be sure to choose the corresponding size specifications when they leave the factory, because the original size tires have achieved the best match with the car after various experimental tests, so try not to change the tire size.
As shown in the figure, among the specifications, there is a logo behind 225/45ZR17. There is also a number and English next to the tire specifications, which represent the tire load index and tire speed level respectively. The tire load, as the name implies, represents the maximum mass that the tire can carry, and the speed level represents the maximum speed that the tire can withstand. However, these two parameters vary according to different manufacturers and models, so when choosing tires, it is better to choose products with higher load and speed ratings.
4. Wear resistance index
The wear resistance index is usually engraved on the side of the tire in the form of numbers. The larger the number, the more wear-resistant the tire is. The wear resistance index of general household car tires is in the range of Treadwear240-400, and the manufacturers mark these tires more as comfortable, quiet, wear-resistant, etc. However, the wear resistance index of performance tires with stronger grip is usually 200 or below. For example, the wear resistance index of Pirelli P ZERO CORSA tires installed on many supercars is only 60. So it is also necessary to pay attention to this index when choosing tires.
5. DOT certification
This logo usually only needs two of us to know, one is China's "CCC" certification, and the other is "DOT" US Department of Transportation certification.
6. M+S and outside logo
The M+S or M/S logo on the sidewall indicates that this tire can be used in snow and mud conditions. The side marked with the Outside logo is installed outward.
7. Tire date
Manufacturers generally mark the production date of the tire on the side of the tire. If the four digits "1211" shown represent the production date of the tire, the "19" at the end represents the year of production, and the "14" at the beginning represents the number of weeks, so the tire in the picture was produced in the 14th week of 2019. Generally, the storage time of tires should not exceed 3 years, because the time used for installation must also be counted.
8. Three-peak snowflake logo
The three-peak snowflake logo is the EU's performance certification for tires suitable for snow applications and guaranteed winter performance. The three-peak snowflake logo on the sidewall also shows the ice and snow performance of this tire.
9. 3T index
TREADWEAR (wear resistance index), TRACTION (traction capacity) TEMPERATURE (temperature index), the value behind it also represents its degree of quality.
10. Sidewall structure
TREAD: tread crown
SIDEWALL: sidewall
RAYON: rayon
STEEL: steel wire
POLYAMIDE: nylon
POLYESTER: polyester
NYLON: nylon.
11. Special markings These tires can be identified by the "RUN FLAT" mark on the sidewall, and can still travel a certain distance when deflated. Original markings: such as the BMW original marking five-pointed star, Audi original marking AO, etc.
