Khun Kakada, deputy director of the Rubber Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, revealed in a recent speech that currently three tire manufacturing companies in Cambodia-Sailun Group Cambodia, General Tire Technology (Cambodia) Factory and Double Star Cambodia Tire Factory-have a combined annual processing capacity of approximately 200,000 tons of rubber latex. These three companies are located in Bayu City, Svay Rieng Province, Sihanoukville Province and Sno County, Kratie Province, forming an important base for the production of rubber products in Cambodia.
During a visit to the Rubber Research Institute of Tebenkmon Province, Deputy Director Khun Kakada highlighted the key role of scientific research in investment decisions. He pointed out that clear and conclusive research results are the basis for building investor confidence and are of great significance in guiding the flow of funds and promoting industrial upgrading. At the same time, he also mentioned the broad prospects of Cambodia's rubber planting industry. The total area of rubber plantations across the country has reached 404,000 hectares, of which the tapping area accounts for as much as 80%.
According to the Carbon Black Industry Network, in the past, Cambodia's rubber latex was mostly exported as raw materials. Now, with the commissioning of three tire factories, it has transformed from raw material export to value-added processing in China. This is not only in line with the Cambodia government's strategic goals of attracting investment and promoting localized production, but also injects new vitality into China's rubber industry. Deputy Director Khun Kakada called on the public to actively support local tire products to promote positive interaction between production and consumption and promote the comprehensive development of the social economy.
In addition, the latest report from the General Administration of Rubber shows that in the first three quarters of 2024, Cambodia's rubber product exports reached 248,535 tons, an increase of 5881 tons compared with the same period last year, an increase of 2.42%. Export revenue exceeded US$397 million, a year-on-year increase of 23.44%, showing the strong export growth momentum of Cambodia's rubber industry.
It is worth mentioning that this month, Cambodia will also hold a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the oldest rubber tree at the Chup Rubber Plantation in Tebenkmon Province, and hold a rubber tapping competition at the same time. The 448 century-old trees in this plantation not only witness the development of Cambodia's rubber industry, but also provide valuable resources for the research of efficient rubber varieties that adapt to the local environment.
