Recently, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics of the African country Ethiopia announced that it will ban fuel vehicles from entering the country and only allow electric vehicles. The reason is that Ethiopia spent nearly US$6 billion to import fossil fuels in 2023, more than half of which was used for fuel-fueled vehicles. Previously, Toyota President Akio Toyoda had publicly questioned electric vehicles many times because he believed that many parts of the world still needed fuel vehicles, and electric vehicles were not convenient in all places. However, Ethiopia's decision made Akio Toyoda hit the face.
Ethiopia's Minister of Transport and Logistics announced the plan on Monday with few details, but he said a decision to ban fires had been made. Ethiopia will invest heavily in electric vehicle charging stations, which ban burning because Ethiopia can no longer afford gasoline and diesel.
