In his latest statement, MARGMA Chairman Oon Kim Hung detailed the burden the export tax places on the rubber glove industry. He pointed out that for a long time, every export transaction has to pay a 0.2% tax, and the cumulative expenditure has exceeded MYR 500 million, equivalent to approximately 100 million US dollars. This burden has seriously affected the profit level of the company. Especially during the boom period of the industry, export taxes even accounted for 2% of the gross profit margin, which is undoubtedly worse for companies.
However, MARGMA remains optimistic about future market demand. They predict that with the recovery of demand in major markets such as the United States, the European Union, and Japan, and the surge in demand for gloves in non-medical fields after the COVID-19 epidemic, the global glove market is expected to achieve another 15% growth after a decline in 2023. It is expected that By 2027, the global glove market demand will reach an astonishing 450 billion.
