The report details the company's operations in the first quarter. Goodyear sold a total of 40.4 million tires during the quarter, down 3.3% from the same period last year. At the same time, total sales also showed a decline of 8.2%, from US$4.941 billion in the same period last year to US$4.537 billion in the quarter. Despite this, the company's segment operating income has achieved significant growth, nearly doubling from US$125 million in 2023 to US$247 million this quarter.
In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, sales and price combinations of replacement tires performed poorly due to weakness in the commercial truck industry and contract price adjustments, resulting in a 9.7% year-on-year decline in sales in the region. However, sales of original equipment tires in the region remained stable, and segment operating income was also unchanged from the same period last year.
Looking ahead, Goodyear predicts that global tire sales will remain stable in the second quarter of 2024, but considering the restorative growth of its Tupelo, Mississippi plant, the company expects to achieve net gains of $35 million. At the same time, the company also predicts quarterly earnings of US$160 million in raw materials and full-year earnings of US$325 to US$350 million. In the global market, Goodyear expects its consumer replacement tire sales to be slightly lower than the industry as a whole, while original equipment sales are expected to grow faster than the industry.
