[Industry News]: Sumitomo Rubber launches TFS technology to help tire noise reduction innovation

Sumitomo Rubber's R & D team explained that the vibration generated when the tire comes into contact with the road surface interacts with the body structure such as suspension, which is the main factor causing noise. To effectively predict and control these noises, they used a method called "Transfer Function Synthesis"(TFS). This method can deeply fuse the respective performance data of tires and vehicles.

据炭黑产业网了解,TFS技术的核心在于将复杂的数据集分解为若干个组成部分,并通过传递函数来描述每个部分的动态行为,最终将这些函数组合起来,以预测轮胎在行驶过程中的整体表现。住友橡胶表示,利用TFS技术,他们首次能够通过模拟来评估滚动轮胎在自由滚动状态下的轴振动特性,这一特性在以往是难以通过实验来准确测量的。

During the research, Sumitomo Rubber compared the shaft vibration characteristics of static tires and rolling tires, and noticed the influence of factors such as the "gyro effect" on the vibration characteristics. The so-called "gyro effect" refers to a physical phenomenon in which when an object rotates, its attitude is difficult to be changed by external force. This finding provides important clues for further optimizing tire design to reduce noise.

通过综合考虑轮胎和车辆的振动特性,这项新技术能够简化道路噪音性能的预测流程。研发团队指出,“传递函数”相较于敏感的车辆信息,具有更普遍的适用性,因此,该方法在实际应用中具有更高的可操作性。

In addition, the introduction of this technology is expected to significantly reduce the number of actual tests of prototype tires, thereby shortening the development cycle of new products and reducing resource consumption. Sumitomo Rubber firmly believes that by using this new prediction method, tire and automobile manufacturers can significantly reduce the noise of their products while operating, provide consumers with a more comfortable driving experience, and will also promote technological progress in the tire and automobile industries.
