Daicel to set up automobile airbag inflator manufacturing plant at CapitaLand’s OneHub Chennai
The plant will cater to the country’s growing demand for automotive airbag inflators.
Bangalore:Osaka, Japan-based Cellu will set up an airbag inflator manufacturer at Capitaland OneHub Chennai, a next-generation industrial township on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Chennai. This will be Cellu’s first airbag inflator manufacturing facility in India with a planned investment of around Rs. 23 crores in the first phase.

The plant will meet the country’s growing demand for automotive airbag inflators. Daicell plans to begin operations in December 2023.
“Until now, we have been supplying products to the Indian market and other countries through our manufacturing facility in Thailand,” said Yoshifumi Takase, Managing Director of Daicell India. In order to meet the supply chain needs of airbag module makers for Indian automakers, OneHub decided to set up a local production facility in Chennai. Buying inflators and components from India helps the Indian economy.
In early October 2018, in response to the growth of the Indian automotive market and the tightening of safety regulations, Cellu set up a sales base (Daicel Safety Systems India Pvt. Ltd. DSSI, Gurugram, Haryana).
OneHub Chennai (OHC) is being developed by a joint venture of CapitaLand and IREO, along with Mizuho Bank and JGC Corporation, a Japanese consortium. The 506-hectare Future Business City is located on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Greater Chennai, Chennai’s growth corridor.
