MSSL signs strategic agreement to acquire Bombardier’s Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems business

NEW DELHI: Automotive components giant Motherson Sumi Systems Limited (MSSL) on Tuesday announced that its Mexican subsidiary, Motherson Rolling Stocks S. de R.L. de C.V., has announced that it has entered into an Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation in Hueveretocaca Power Cabling Interconnections, Inc. MRS Motherson, part of the Motherson Rolling Stock Division, designs and manufactures electrical cabinets, power packs and distribution systems for leading railcar manufacturers.
MSSL, through its PKC Group (acquired in March 2017), is engaged in the manufacturing of wiring harnesses for railroad vehicles, primarily in Europe and the US. In 2019, the company acquired Bombardier’s UK locomotive electrical components and systems business in Derby through its subsidiary Motherson Rolling Stock Systems GB Limited, UK (MRSS). Now that a definitive agreement between MRS and Bombardier has been signed, the relationship will extend to Mexico.
The transaction involves a transfer value of approximately $10,000 based on no debt and no cash $10,000 in assets, employees and inventory. The transaction is expected to close in accordance with customary procedures and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal 20-21.
BT Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS) provides best-in-class wiring harnesses and electrical components based on global standard solutions. MRS continues to manufacture the same wiring harness products at its Huehuetoca, Mexico facility as it does today, improving efficiencies in time-to-market, just-in-time delivery and cost structure. The companies are currently working to ensure a smooth transition of employees and operations to minimize any potential impact, and expect to complete the transaction in the fourth quarter of fiscal 20-21.
