Amara Raja plans two-wheeler battery plant of 11 million capacity

TIRUPATI: Amara Raja Batteries Ltd today said it plans to expand its two-wheeler battery capacity to over 22 million units per annum in the next two years.

“The current capacity (11 million) will cater to the market demand for the current and next financial year, which means it will cater to the demand for 2016-17, which will cater to 11 lakh. million per year will be available.

“We need to start work 18 months in advance, so we have started planning, including the technology and design that will be used in the new plant.” Amara Ramachandra N Galla told reporters here.

However, the cost of investment was not disclosed. Galla said the company is considering building the proposed plant in the north or west.

“We are evaluating all the options, I can’t say whether it will be a single plant or multiple plants,” he said, “but we will use the best technology.”

The total capacity of the four-wheeler battery plant will be 8.25 million units per year.
