Isuzu Motors targets 1.2 lakh units annual output by 2016

Kolkata: Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors plans to invest 30 years in India by 2016 with an annual production of Rs 1,200 crore million units, a senior official said today.

Once the Tri-City plant in Andhra Pradesh comes on stream in 2016, the company will expand its production capacity to 12 lakh units per annum with a cumulative investment of Rs. 300 crore, said Wakabayashi, Executive Vice President and Vice President of the company.

Light commercial vehicles (pickups) and sport utility vehicles (passenger cars) are manufactured and marketed by 50 Suzuki.

Wakabayashi said in an interview that the automaker’s initial goal is 70 percent localization and 100 percent localization meaning 2,000-3,000 units within three years of the 107-acre Tri-City plant coming on line. 100 jobs each.

President Wakabayashi said that the company is yet to take a decision on the mode of production allocation after the commissioning of the HM Chennai plant and the new Tri-City plant.
