Gujarat Alkalies appoints Cadila Pharmaceuticals CMD Rajiv Modi as independent director

NEW DELHI: State-run Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd has appointed Cadila Pharmaceuticals CMD Rajiv Modi as an independent director on its board.

The company has also appointed Pallavi Shroff as an independent director. Shroff, who is lawyer, also serves as an independent director at Maruti Suzuki Ltd.

In a filing to the BSE, Gujarat Alkalies said: “… the company has appointed Rajiv I Modi, Chairman & Managing Director of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Pallavi S Shroff, Partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, as Independent Directors on the board of directors of the company.”

Gujarat Alkalies is one of the country’s largest caustic soda firms with a capacity of 3.79 lakh tonnes per annum.

Besides this, the company also produces various chemicals, including hydrochloric acid and chlorine gas.

The combined annual capacity of all chemicals is around 1.42 million tonnes per annum.

Shares of the company were up 1.55 per cent at Rs 202.60 apiece during afternoon trade on the BSE.
