The standard shaft 525i is confirmed to be equipped with only BSG motors
However, there is indeed a 520i equipped with a B48TU2 +ISG motor, and only the European version uses this powertrain worldwide. That is to say, the 5 Series produced at BMW’s Dingefen factory in Germany is divided into two production lines, one is specially supplied to Europe and equipped with ISG motors; the other is specially exported and equipped with BSG motors.
What is the difference between ISG and BSG?
No matter which motor is paired with, the power parameters of the B48TU2 low-power version are 190 horsepower and 310 Nm. BSG can provide an output of 11 horsepower and 25 Nm, but this 11 horsepower cannot be superimposed with the engine to improve the output power of the overall system. It can only be used as a supplement to the low and medium rotation range of the engine. Therefore, the total power of the domestic standard shaft 525i is still 190 horsepower, the acceleration time of 0-100km/h is 8.1 seconds.
As one of the modules of ZF’s fourth-generation 8HP gearbox, the ISG motor is located between the engine and the gearbox. It can be superimposed with the engine to output an additional 18 horsepower and 200 Nm. Therefore, the total power of the European version 520i is 190+18=208 horsepower, the acceleration time from 0-100km/h is shortened to 7.5 seconds.
