Power system
The engine model on the 2020 525i nameplate is B48B20A, according to the frame check configuration information shows that the engine model is B48C, which is very different from the old engine, the biggest difference is that the new engine intake intercooler is air-cooled, the old intake intercooler is water-cooled, so the new model reduces a set of circulating water cooling system, and the new cylinder head is integrated with exhaust manifold. The turbocharger is directly connected to the cylinder head exhaust port, the timing chain is optimized, and the gearbox is upgraded to ZF third-generation 8AT.
In my opinion, the effects of the update of the power system are:
1. Improved reliability. The air-cooled intake intercooler is more reliable than the water-cooled intercooler integrated on the intake manifold, because I have seen the tragic case of cooling water leakage into the cylinder of the 3-series B48 water-cooled intercooler before. PS: intercooling leakage is only an isolated case. There should be no problem with proper use of coolant.
two。 The warm-up speed of cold start is fast. The cylinder head is integrated with the exhaust manifold, and the exhaust temperature makes the coolant reach the working temperature quickly. The obvious effect can be felt in winter, and there will be hot air 1-2 minutes after start-up.
3. The turbine is late. As the form of inlet cooling is changed to air-cooled, it is necessary to direct the pressurized air to the air cooler at the front of the car and then go back to the intake manifold. the volume of the pipeline is larger than that of the old water-cooled intercooler integrated on the intake manifold. the pressure response speed of the turbine is a little slower. But the new cylinder head integrates the exhaust manifold, the volume of the exhaust pipe is smaller than the old one, and the exhaust is blown more directly to the turbine, which helps to reduce the turbine lag.
4. Air conditioning and cooling may be improved. The old model often heard that the air conditioning refrigeration is not good, and I think it may be related to the small coolant circulation system, which is used in the intercooler to cool the intake air and the air conditioning condenser. The wind cools the water first, and then the water cools the refrigerant. It turned a corner. The new model cancels the small cycle, changes the air-conditioning condenser to the air-cooled type, which is more direct, and at the same time reduces the chance of water leakage by reducing a set of cooling system. It is not summer yet, there is no actual measurement of the cooling effect of air conditioning, it is only speculated that there may be some improvement.

The normal cruise engine speed is controlled at 1200 rpm, and when acceleration is needed, step on the throttle slightly and speed down immediately, and glide automatically after releasing the throttle. But there is a sense of drag when slowing down to about 20 km / h, which is very similar to the low-gear engine brake of a manual car, but BMW’s drag is much slighter, and I’m used to basically ignoring manual gear. In terms of brakes, I was worried that the single-piston brakes were a little weak. A thrilling experience made me give up the idea of retrofitting the brakes. Last week, my father was driving, I took the copilot, and a car was running normally on the national highway. A car turned around at the intersection in front of me. When my father braked and stepped on the clutch to the end, the car stopped immediately. I was petrified.
