Unwittingly, this is the fifth car I have bought in the past 15 years since I went back to China. The first two are Japanese cars, and the last three are German and British cars. 30% of the cars are bought because of transportation needs, and 70% because of the hobby of driving. I remember that when I was a child, my father used to hold me to the side of the road to see the passing cars. Whenever I saw the speeding buses, rail and trolley buses and cars, I was very excited and had a strong interest in cars since I was a child. But in that era when Chinese people had not even solved their food and clothing, owning a car was an unimaginable extravagant hope and fantasy. So this interest in cars is just an interest in watching and a hobby deeply buried in my heart. It was not until after the reform and opening up that when was studying in the United States, I bought the first car in my life. An almost scrapped Nissan Datsun coupe was used to learn to drive. I learned to drive a car without a coach or a driver’s license. Of course, the ultimate fate of Datsun coupe was that I hit a big tree and scrapped it. Later, I bought several used cars and new cars before and after the United States. Japanese cars, American cars, and European cars have been used for a lap, which can be regarded as the realization of their long-cherished wish since childhood.
All right, let’s get back to the point. I bought the BMW 540Li purely on the spur of the moment or on a whim. I didn’t plan to buy a new car. I just inadvertently went to the auto show and was deeply attracted by the new generation of BMW 5-Series. First of all, it was its sense of technology and rich configuration, and the second was the new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engine (B58). I couldn’t stop, considering that the new energy electric vehicle was the trend of the times. In the near future, large-displacement multi-cylinder gasoline engines will eventually be replaced by new energy power systems. For me, who is fascinated by the new engine technology, how long will it take for me not to buy a straight-line six-cylinder BMW? After a short period of consideration and comparison of test driving (including 530Li, Mercedes-Benz E320L and 540Li), the final target was 540Li. In early September 2017, an order was placed in a 4S store in Shanghai with ore body-in-white, Moka interior decoration and enhanced driving assistance. After three years of original factory extension, the 4S store imposed 12000 yuan of decoration (including BMW original driving recorder, quantum glass film, full car plating, 3D floor mats and rear box mats). The newly listed 5 Series is expensive, with no discount when booking, and it is decorated by 4S store QJ. Fortunately, when I booked a car, I got a favorable purchase condition with 4S store: the actual transaction price was finally determined by the buyer and seller according to the market situation at the time of picking up the car, so the final car price when I picked up the car in early December was 2 points less than the guide price, and the decoration 4S store equivalent to 12000 yuan was given to me free of charge. It was a little bit of self-consolation, and finally paid nearly 770000 of the total cost of the car landing in a lump sum. I believe that many people must be puzzled that a joint venture domestic BMW 540Li can buy a fully imported BMW 730 for 770000 plus 100000, but the 730 with a 4-cylinder 2.0T engine is not my type, and the configuration of the 730 with an expensive 100000 yuan is much worse than that of the 540Li, while the 740 that can really be seen landed at least 1.2 million. For me, there is no full-time driver, no spacious parking space, pure personal driving. To enjoy the ease of walking through urban traffic, the 5-series long axle version with a length of nearly 5.1m is already the limit of the body size, so the 7-Series 540Li is more suitable for me.
After the car was brought back, I didn’t drive much. So far, the mileage is only about 500 kilometers, about 60% of the urban roads, 40% of the elevated expressways and highways in Shanghai, and the average fuel consumption (Lmax 100 km) has dropped from 20 on the first day to 14 now. It is expected that it will be no problem to continue to drive below 12. Some riders who have driven more miles say that his fuel consumption is less than 9. I think it has a lot to do with the new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines and lightweight 5-series bodies. When it comes to driving performance, 540Li is very dynamic and can be described as excess power. generally, the default Comfort mode can meet all driving needs. Sport mode is basically useless in daily driving, so it is probably more appropriate to leave it for 0-100 racing. ZF 8-speed automatic transmission cooperates seamlessly with BMW straight 6 engine, and there is no sudden setback in up and down gears. In a smooth gear shift, the car quietly accelerates to 120 kilometers per hour, and you may think that it is only driving at 80 kilometers per hour. In addition to the sweet music in the car, the noise and engine sound outside the car are very low. The sound insulation of the new 5 series has been done quite well. One of the big selling points of the new 5 series is adaptive cruising with enhanced driving assistance. I have experienced it many times. It is very practical and easy to use. It can be used on both high-speed cruising and congested urban roads. Automatic car following, automatic braking, lane maintenance, emergency avoidance, this generation of BMW 5-Series is quite in place and intelligent. In other respects, I am not yet fully familiar with the dazzling features and connected driving applications. Fortunately, I have downloaded and installed a BMW driving guide APP on my iPhone phone. It is much more convenient than a paper user manual to consult any unclear place at any time. Domestic 540Li is specially designed and produced for Chinese mainland, fully catering to the needs of domestic consumers for luxury, comfort and rich configuration, so ride comfort is no less than Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Nappa calfskin seat is very comfortable, cockpit seat package support can be electrically adjustable, site suspension is no longer so stiff, road bumps are fully filtered, road sense and handling are significantly weaker than the previous generation 5-Series. But the comfort is greatly improved. Within nearly a month after picking up the car, the 4S shop pasted the glass film to the car and finished the whole car paint crystal plating, but the original factory driving recorder was not installed (this has to be done after the glass film is dry for a period of time). In addition, through the introduction of friends of the 540th car to the BMW refitting store to install real-time tire pressure monitoring (RDC) and brush the hidden function, the original abnormal tire pressure can only alarm and can not see the tire pressure value of each tire. Now you can see the tire pressure in real time, and this is very useful. That’s all for today, and we’ll follow up when we have more driving experience.

My evaluation of the 540Li is generally very satisfied, but there are still some aspects that I want to complain about:
(1) In the huge internal space of the new 5 Series, the storage compartments are actually very small. The storage box in the center armrest can be filled with a few CDs and a small number of items. One of the two cup slots under the central control is occupied by an ashtray, and the other is only enough for a small cup. The storage compartments on the four doors cannot accommodate a larger thermos cup at all, and the design is not humane enough.
(2) The control buttons and trim panels on the four doors are made of black plastic, which is cheap and unattractive, which is incompatible with the luxurious atmosphere inside the car.
(3) The tire pressure monitoring system only has an alarm function and cannot display the tire pressure value of each tire. In fact, the foreign 5 series can display it, and the domestic 5 series is also equipped with RDC modules. However, as soon as it arrives, the sensor valve on the domestic wheel hub was castrated, and the imported standard shaft 5 series was not immune, so I had to install the sensor valve myself.
