At present, the mainstream street caliper manufacturing processes are mainly divided into two types: forging and casting.

Forging has higher strength and lighter weight than casting to a certain extent. It uses forging machinery to apply pressure to the metal blank to deform itself plastically and obtain certain mechanical properties, certain shape and size. Then, after CNC precision machining, the shape and piston size are engraved.

Conventionally, it is divided into two-piece forged calipers. The integrated manufacturing process is relatively complicated and the processing steps are cumbersome, but the integrated forged calipers are also stronger than the split calipers.

Most of the integrated forged calipers are used in events. You can see APRACING’s 5000R series and CP9570 models, ALCON, etc.

Double-piece forged calipers are basically divided into symmetrical structures, with two identical calipers and then fixed with a few 12.9-level screws, which is relatively simple.
The raw materials for casting are the same as those for forging, but the processing process is different. It is a part-making process by pouring molten metal liquid into a mold and cooling and solidifying to obtain the required shape and performance.

Casting is a commonly used manufacturing method with low manufacturing costs and great process flexibility. In fact, to a certain extent, the cost of casting is higher than that of forging. In the early stage, because casting requires opening the mold, the cost of the mold in the early stage is also relatively high. However, in the later stage, batch production can be carried out, and the cost is lower than that of forging. Therefore, many of the tongs of original cars are cast. Regardless of personal thoughts, it is really not cost-effective to pay tens of thousands of yuan for casting!
