New attempts at tyres

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz E300L uses a Michelin 25545R17 PP2. Changed once 5-6 years ago, in a tiger bought the same type of Michelin, chose a store with good reviews, the facts proved that the wrong choice, four tires changed, the edges of the four wheels have varying degrees of scratches, in the past few years, the wheel has never had a scratch history is dead, distressed ah!

Michelin currently does not have this type of PP2 specification tire, the choice is Michelin P4, or horse brand UC6. I haven’t figured out how to choose. Happened to see a Dunlop MAXX050, publicity is targeted at luxury car tires, the performance-to-price ratio is very good, coinciding with the activities of 618, so I got a set. Once again chose a lot of high praise of the physical store, the past experience still makes me a little bit perturbed.

Four wheels have been removed, the quality of Michelin PP2 is really good, it has been almost six years, there are basically no aging cracks, the mileage is only 50,000km, and the pattern is still very deep, mainly based on the potential risk of tire service life or replacement.

From this point of view, we can see that the tire pattern is really very good. The hub has been fixed in the correct position of the grilled tire machine, and it is true that some stores stuck the positioning pin directly on the inside of the hub, leaving scratches.

This picture shows the fixed position of the wheel hub when the old tire is removed.

When the tire machine is operated in the first step, it needs to press the side wall of the tire, and the plastic protective cover should be installed in front of the curved metal plate, which can be regarded as consumables. From these details, we can see how good the store is.

Be sure to put on this yellow plastic guard when picking the tire, otherwise you will scratch the hub when you pry up the edge of the tire.

With the replacement of the Michelin PP2, all four tires have not been mended once.

The new Dunlop tyres have been replaced and have not yet been inflated. A brand new Michelin nozzle has been replaced. It looks a little shrunken.

The new inflated tire looks much more normal.

The dynamic balance is also meticulous, and finally the small screens on both sides of the balancing machine show “00”.

All the replacement work in the store is only half done for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Although the torque wrench was used in the installation, I was afraid that the screw had been screwed too tight by the pneumatic tool before using the wrench. Use the car Jack to remove the wheels one by one, and only one of the tires is shown here. The whole workload needs to be multiplied by 4.

It turned out that the screw was too tight and stepped on the tire bolt wrench to make the screw loose. Remove the entire wheel, first remove the residue caused by the balance block adjustment with detergent, and then clean the contaminants inside the hub.

This operation requires spraying the glue residue with a cleaning agent, and then rubbing the residue with the kitchen cloth until it is completely removed. The hands are so dirty that we can only use an old picture.

Spray tire wax on both sides of the tire, rest for a while, wipe the tire surface with a towel, and wipe the wheel hub with a special hub cleaning cloth. Before the tire is installed, use a clean cloth to remove a small amount of rust from the surface. Removing tires is also a good time to clean the inside of the wheel arch, and of course it can’t be ignored.

The front wheel when it’s finished. Tire bolts are adjusted to 130NM

The rear wheel when it’s finished. The tire pressure is adjusted to 220KPa. After the road test, the noise tested with the mobile phone noise test tool is similar to the Michelin PP2 old tire, and the comfort is slightly higher than the Michelin PP2 old tire. Although there is no surprise, as Dunlop is positioned as a luxury car tire, it is cost-effective.
