Maintain Bora MK4 gearshift mechanism and leather dust cover
In 2023, Lao Bora will not open many cars. They will put them in the underground garage to avoid the wind and sun, and occasionally drive them out to exercise their muscles and muscles.
After the rainy season, I felt that the shifting mechanism was sluggish. After the hot car started running, the situation eased, but I still couldn’t return to its original smoothness, so I kept enduring the resistance of shifting gears.
During the weekend holiday in April 2024, when the central passage was removed, it was found that the rubber sleeve inside the limit hole was yellow and aging, and there was a gap. This was the main reason why the first gear was not easy to hang. In addition, the rubber sleeve was completely shattered, making it difficult to put in gear. (Refer to Figure 3)
So I bought a rubber sleeve online, applied lubricating ester, and pressed it in vigorously from the outside to eliminate the gap and keep it tight. From under the dust cover of the manual gear, it was difficult to exert force, so I removed the central passage. Remove the soundproof cotton and press it in from the side.
Interior: After replacing the rubber sleeve, apply sufficient lubricating grease to the lower part of the manual gear lever and the movable parts.
Exterior: In the engine compartment, the shifting mechanism, pull wires, and moving parts are also covered with lubricating grease.
Then switch in each gear in turn. It was a little raw at first, but then it was as slippery as Dove chocolate.
After maintenance, the long-lost smoothness and inhalation feel of gear shifting have returned.
