A new blower was replaced, which completely solved the problem of abnormal sound in the air conditioner blower. At the same time, I was also very curious why the old fan made abnormal noises again in a short period of time after being filled with lubricating oil.

It was very dirty, surrounded by the grease I put in. The bearing is fixed by welding an iron piece to the motor housing and pressing the bearing with several contacts.

In theory, oil-retaining bearings can be replaced with a new pair of bearings. But I didn’t find the same model online.

This is made by sintering an iron-based powder alloy and can be attracted by a magnet.

Motor shaft, 8 mm. The workmanship is quite OK.

According to an online inquiry, this kind of bearing is called oil-retaining bearing. It is made of sintered powder alloy and has a large number of tiny pores inside. It does not have lubrication ability in itself. Instead, special lubricating oil is pressed in under vacuum using atmospheric pressure. During work, the joint surface between it and the motor shaft generates heat due to friction, causing the lubricating oil inside to be squeezed out, thereby forming lubrication. When the work stops, the lubricating oil is sucked into the pores again. The working principle is very clever.
Such bearings also need to be filled with special lubricating oil regularly, but require vacuum pressure. Ordinary methods of applying lubricating grease are destined to not last long. This is the reason why I used grease several times in the past, but it still sounded abnormal after a long time.
Personal advice is that if you have free time, you can add thinner lubricating oil regularly, and let the fan run at high speed for a period of time after filling, and then shut down. In theory, this allows the bearing to absorb more lubricating oil and extend its life. If you are just an ordinary cyclist, it is recommended to replace it directly. Now the price of the blower is not expensive.
