2009 POLO taillights are repaired with water in water

Older cars often experience water entering the headlights or taillights. This is usually caused by the failure of headlight seals. My 2009 POLO also experienced water entering the taillights. After rainy days or after car washing, 2-3 mm of water will accumulate under the right rear taillights. Long-term water corrodes the reflective coating inside the taillights and threatens the lighting system. We strive to repair the QQ Group (Group number: 433548105) There are also several riders who have reported this situation. Some use sealant to deal with it, and some simply punch holes on the lights to drain water. These are all relatively partial treatment methods. Today, I will introduce my treatment method to everyone.

The right rear taillight is flooded, and you can notice that the bottom plate below the turn signal is no longer silver white.

When removing the lining, there is a plastic nut to fix it. The original car is connected with a white rubber rope to prevent it from falling into the vehicle compartment during disassembly and assembly. My rope is broken. Be careful not to drop it when removing it with a 10mm sleeve.

Remove the screws and the light moves.

There are two upper and lower spring clips on the right side of the lamp. You can remove it while lifting the lamp upwards and pulling it outwards to disconnect the lamp cord.

It can be seen from here that there is a ring of sealing rings to ensure that the lamp does not contain water and dust, but it is obvious that the top is white. These are dust. Due to its age, the sealing rings have aged and hardened, and the water enters from above. To deal with the water inside the headlight, you have to replace the sealing rings, but… Nothing for sale…

Remove the aging sealing ring and glue it on the back to the lamp.

The look after it was finished.

Clean dust with a quick towel to ensure there are no pollutants. Remove the base of the lamp (four plastic clips) and completely dry the inside of the lamp with a tissue and a hair dryer.

The protagonist comes on the stage ~~~~~!!! This kind of thing is called “EVA sponge tape”. The material is exactly the same as the original car. It has glue on one side. I bought it 10mm wide and 8mm thick. It costs only more than 2 yuan for 2 meters and free shipping. It can almost be said that it is zero cost.

Start pasting from the bottom of the lamp, so that the joint is at the bottom, and even if water seeps from the joint, it will not enter the lamp.

The material is very soft, and EVA foaming closes the holes without worrying about water seepage. I was originally worried that wrinkles would appear at the corners, but in fact they would not appear.

Finally, close the bottom, perfect.

It’s also good from the side

This is a contrast between the old and the new seals. The new sealing strip is wider than the old sealing ring and is slightly more than 2-3 mm thick. When installed in this way, it can better fit the car shell to prevent water ingress.
The last thing to note is to wipe the contact parts of the car shell with a rag during installation. Installation with dust will reduce the waterproof performance.
