[Win good luck in the New Year] The success of second-hand POLO activates useless batteries, repairs and reuses

A car friend who is also a Volkswagen gave me a battery. It was replaced by the original car battery. Because it was not strong to start in winter, I replaced it. I thought it could be rescued, so I took it back and prepared to do it myself to carry out maintenance. Let the battery look younger again.

Give me the battery in a carton.

The 14-year-old battery, the original car, seems to be quite old.

Looking sideways, I found that there was still enough electrolyte in each cell, eliminating the need for me to open and add.

A discharge meter is used to test the battery capacity, and it also requires a cycle such as discharge-charging to restore the capacity. Set the discharge disconnection voltage to 10.5V.

Set the discharge current to 20A.

When the discharge starts, you can see that the voltage is decreasing.

The final discharge ended, and the capacity was 9.46AH, while the original car was 60AH. The capacity was reduced too much.

At this time, the battery is completely dead, so use a 12V charger to charge it.

After the battery is fully charged, it should be desulfurized and special pulse desulfurized equipment should be used.

This equipment is a previous positive and negative pulse repair instrument.

The red light will turn on after being powered on, and you can hear the “buzzing” sound close to the repair instrument. The repair takes about 24 hours.

Discharge with a discharge meter again. Completing a cycle is to fully charge → repair → discharge, and use this cycle to remove sulfur and restore battery capacity.

Discharge or charge.

After a cycle, it can be seen that the discharge result is 16.91AH, which is nearly double the original 9.46AH, and the effect is still obvious. Note that it takes not just one cycle, but 3-5 cycles to maximize the battery’s recovery from sulfur removal.

Load the battery into the car and see how it works.

Disassemble the original battery.

Disconnect the negative pole.

Then disconnect the positive pole.

Loosen the battery base fixing screws.

The fixed base looks like this.

Use one word to loosen the buckle.

This allows you to remove the battery.

The buckle on the top of the battery is cleverly designed.

This battery has been used for several years and has a lot of dust.

Prepare to replace it with the repaired battery and see the effect.

Transplanted the protective sleeve.

Install it in place in turn.

Use a file to polish the contact surface inside the battery pile.

All restored.

Check it again, there is no problem, ready to start it for a try.

When the first gear is powered on, the voltage shows 12.5V, which looks good.

One fire was started smoothly, and several times in a row, and all of them were lit smoothly. It seems that the battery is available!!
By the time I posted, the battery had been used for more than half a month and was in normal use. It seems that I have picked up a treasure and successfully repaired the battery. It is perfect.
