The plastic upper cover of the water tank burst for no reason! Coolant leaked and replaced it with an all-aluminum water tank.

Before the Spring Festival, after driving dozens of kilometers, I routinely opened the hood and found a large number of pink water stains in the engine compartment. I was shocked. I checked the oil gauge the day before and saw that everything was normal. How could so much coolant leak out?


After careful inspection, I found that the plastic upper cover of the water tank was cracked… I was speechless. I always knew that there was a possibility of cracking here, but I didn’t expect it to crack after only hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Wipe it clean, ignite it, generate pressure, and verify:




Confirmed diagnosis, this is it. It cracked during driving, and the leaking coolant was blown by the strong wind of the silicone oil fan, leaving a pink mark when it dried. Fortunately, I saw that the liquid level of the coolant in the kettle was fine. It was a leak. I discovered the leak as soon as it leaked. There was no harm caused by too much water loss.







Should I replace the original plastic top cover or replace it with an all-metal water tank? This is a problem.


After thinking about it, I’d better replace it with an all-aluminum water tank.


I built an all-aluminum water tank, and the workmanship details and size accuracy are not flattering… I didn’t have confidence in it.



Make a bet, change, and get to work.


Compared with the old one when removed, the all-aluminum water tank is thicker.




During the replacement process, several problems occurred and delayed me for two days. Fortunately, I was in no hurry to use the car, but they were finally solved. These little problems upset me and lost some confidence in the product.

What it will look like after it is installed. During this period, I often check to see the situation.




I installed a watch in the ashtray. Basically, all the data from the original sensor of the entire car can be displayed. Up to eight data can be called up on the main screen. When I drive, I occasionally glance to check the water temperature.


The picture below is taken when the car was ignited in the morning. The water temperature and gearbox oil temperature have not yet reached the normal working temperature. The lower right corner of each data is the peak data that has appeared before, which is 777 N. The peak torque data of meters was left behind when driving a low-speed four-wheel drive to the west while climbing a mountain.






As of today, after a period of use, no problems have been found.


During normal driving, the water temperature is slightly lower than before by about 2-3 degrees. It used to fluctuate up and down at 88-92 degrees, but now it fluctuates between 85-90 degrees.
