BMW oil cooler leaks, a money-saving experience from purchasing to repairing
They all say,”A BMW that does not leak oil is a fake BMW.” Of course it was a joke. Oil leaks have been a common problem for BMW for many years. In the high temperature operating environment of the engine, some rubber seals will age over time, and oil leakage is normal. Just replace it in time.
The BMW GT535 that I had been driving for almost 7 years finally fell for it and discovered that oil was leaking from the oil cooler. I feel annoyed in my heart! But I immediately calmed down and began to study purchase and repair plans. I don’t want to spend wasted money to repair it in a 4S shop. After all, I am a person with more than 20 years of experience in auto parts sales.
First, use EPC to find the parts diagram at the oil cooler according to the 17-digit frame number of my car, and find out the part numbers of the two seals at the oil leak. With the part number, I began to make inquiries to several powerful BMW parts dealers, and compared and selected one with original quality and affordable prices to ship the goods. Figures 4 and 5 below show the prices of two gaskets and 4S store.
I bought the two pads Nos. 4 and 5 in the spare parts picture for 110 yuan each, and they are both original parts. These two mat BMW 4S stores sell for 339.99 yuan each, saving 460 yuan for the two mat accessories.
Now that the parts are ready, the next step is to choose a BMW repair shop. This was particularly easy to do. After all, I knew many repair shop friends, so I chose a BMW repair shop run by a friend. Several maintenance technicians inside were recruited from BMW 4S stores and have many years of BMW maintenance experience. When I arrived at the repair shop, I took it apart and found that the oil cooler was stained with oil, and the gasket had also aged and broken. No wonder there was an oil leak.
It was quite difficult to remove this oil cooler seat. It took two technicians more than two hours to remove several parts. The work is very detailed and professional! Carefully clean the removed parts one by one to remove the oil stains on them. Finally, the perfect installation ended. Add a small amount of antifreeze and I am very satisfied!
After maintenance and installation, the engine compartment was also cleaned. Because this maintenance boss is my friend, I was embarrassed to ask for more manual fees, so I finally charged 300 yuan after repeated excuses. If it is in a 4S store, it will cost about 2000 yuan.
Once, when BMW leaked oil, I went from purchasing parts to finding a repair shop for repair through my own DIY. This time, the oil cooler leaking parts and manual fees cost a total of only 520 yuan, which was a few thousand yuan savings than going to a 4S shop. I have maintained my car well and share it with everyone here.
