How to choose H9 air filter elements

8 Many of us used to drive self-priming cars, so when we go to H9 vehicles that use turbocharged engines, we still follow the maintenance methods of self-priming cars, although we feel that there is no difference. But in fact, if you know the relevant mechanism of turbocharged engines, you will find that the maintenance of turbocharged vehicles is very different from self-priming cars.
There is not much to say about the working principle of the turbocharger here. Generally speaking, people attach great importance to engine oil, and they are willing to spend money on better oil for their cars, and the most important thing is to use after-sale matching oil, so as long as they do not buy fake oil, it is generally not a problem.
But another important part is often overlooked: this is the filter element of the air filter.

The turbocharger requires high air cleanliness because of its high speed, high temperature and high pressure. The harm brought by inferior filter elements is that particles (such as gravel) enter the turbocharger to cause abnormal noise, wear and even scrap. Turbochargers are not cheap. But riders all know that the after-sale air filter price of H9 is not cheap, which costs more than 100 yuan, so many riders choose to buy air filter outside. I also bought two air filters this time, but as a man of science and technology, I think I should make a comparison before using it. I don’t know. Although today’s comparisons are all regular big brand products, the result of the comparison is still a shock to me.
The purchased M and B brands are considered big brands in the auto parts industry, not the kind of knockoffs casually bought in the auto parts street. In fact, the so-called “original factory” air filter that we replace after sale is manufactured by M brand. But don’t worry, the next performance of the M brand will surprise you. In addition, Brand B actually has a deep blood relationship with Dajiu, many of the key components of Dajiu and Brand B are the same company. The last one is naturally an authentic after-sale maintenance accessory. Let’s call it Brand C, the Great Wall.

I measured the appearance and size of the three filter elements of CBM, and found a problem.
C: original filter element: longitudinal (along the reinforcement direction) length 33cm, transverse width 32cm

B: B brand filter element: longitudinal length 34cm transverse width 32cm
We found that the vertical length of the filter elements of C and M brands is actually different from that of B brands 1cm.
But purely from the size point of view, we can not just say that there will be problems when the M brand is installed, because the filter elements of the three brands are all soft frames and can be retractable, is it true that the size of the C & G M is the right size and the B brand is too large for better tightness, so we will next measure the inner size of the air filter.

We found that the vertical length of the filter elements of C and M brands is actually different from that of B brands 1cm.

I lifted the three CBM filter elements, two of which CB due to the underlying filter cotton support, the filter element is relatively strong, there is no obvious bending deformation. M brand has no underlying cotton filter support, and the frame is relatively soft, so it presents a natural bending and sagging. What worries me is that due to the relatively large size of the H9 air filter and the filter element (the area of the H9 filter element has reached more than 900 square centimeters, which is not small in ordinary passenger cars), after the M brand is installed into the air filter, whether it will collapse in the middle and lead to lax closure around it, resulting in impurities entering the turbine and engine. (it is also suggested that Harvard manufacturers improve the air filter and add support brackets inside to prevent the filter element from collapsing. )
There is a collapse of M brand.
Brand B did not appear.
Open the air filter box, which is more than 6000 kilometers from the last maintenance. The red arrow shows obvious sand deposition, and the yellow arrow is the position of the air inlet.
In fact, if not carefully studied, I always thought that the airflow direction of the filter element was consistent with that shown by the red arrow, but in fact it was shown by the blue arrow.
As shown in the following figure, the inner size of the air filter is 33.5*32cm.
Then some riders may ask, not to mention other brands, why is the size of the original air filter different from that inside the air filter? Can you seal it? In fact, I took a closer look at the outer frame of the air filter. When we measure, it is measured from the upper edge of the air filter outer frame, while the original air filter outer frame is trapezoidal on the side, that is to say, the lower edge of the air filter outer frame is wider than the upper edge. In fact, today, in the actual installation of the three filter elements in the air filter, it is found that the lower edges of the filter elements of C and B are completely attached to the inner edge of the air filter, while there is a gap of about 3mm after the M brand air filter is installed. The edge is barely up to the inner wall of the air filter, and there is a hidden danger of lax fitting.
Then some riders may ask, not to mention other brands, why is the size of the original air filter different from that inside the air filter? Can you seal it? The transverse width of the filter box is 32cm
After the installation of the M brand with longitudinal width of 33cm, there is a gap between the edge of the filter box and the arrow as shown by the arrow.
As shown in the figure, the reason for the tight combination of the original filter element with the same longitudinal length of 33cm and the air filter box is that we use the upper edge to measure the size of the three filter elements, but the lower edge of the outer frame of the original filter element is 5-8mm wider than the upper edge.
The B brand with vertical length of 34cm can naturally be closely combined with the air filter box of length 33.5cm.
The relevant description of the function of air filtration on the outer package of an air filter, of course, the suggestion of changing it once a year should be considered, after all, the car environment is different, and the average annual mileage is not the same.
Because we are not professional testing institutions, we do not have the equipment to test the ventilation and filterability of these filter elements, so today’s comparison can only go so far.
In fact, the main purpose of today’s comparison is to provide some reference information for those who think that the after-sale filter elements are expensive and turn to buy three-party filter elements. More importantly, they want to give you some suggestions or experience.
1. More obvious.
