[Daily car maintenance] BMW spent more than 1,000 to repair the car. The only reason was a pile of leaves?
Hello everyone, this is a column focusing on car repair and maintenance. There are car secrets you don’t know here, and it will teach you how to avoid big pits on the road to car maintenance. I believe that not only you, but also many people have a certain hazy feeling about the automotive aftermarket. Here will help you uncover the unknown stories of car repair and maintenance.
Many people don’t care about the leaves piled up on the car body, but these seemingly inconspicuous things may sometimes cause great losses to your car.
The BMW X5 ‘s suffering is a bit miserable. The heavy rain in Beijing in the past few days has caused it to lie down directly. Although it did not experience blisters at all, let alone water into the engine. It was just parked in the community. After a rainy night, it could no longer be started.

After inspection, it turned out that one of the control modules of the BMW X5 ‘s driving computer was broken, causing the vehicle to fail to start, and the control module in question was in the drain in the engine compartment.
After I removed the cover plate of the drainage trough, I was really scared to pee by the sight in front of me. This drainage tank has now directly become a water tank, and the control module has been almost completely immersed in the water.
The electrical system is most afraid of water, so I guess the water must have damaged this control module, and the circuit board inside may have been shorted.
After I completely disassembled the circuit board, I was even more shocked by the scene in front of me. The entire circuit board is basically in a moldy state, and there is a lot of rust on some individual pins. This control module has been scrapped.
The remaining water in the drainage trough was filled with a large plate, and it took about five minutes to completely drain out.
I always thought it was just something small that blocked the drainage hole and caused the accumulation of stagnant water. After draining the stagnant water, he was still scared by the scene in front of him. A large number of leaves piled up in the drainage trough, the large and small ones were countless. Some had completely turned black, and some had completely turned into powder. The leaves here have been around for at least a year.
It was not until all the debris was completely removed that I saw this small drainage hole. In fact, there is another filter screen on this drainage trough. However, because the car is too old, there are some loopholes on the filter screen. The owner usually doesn’t pay attention, resulting in more and more leaves.
Of course, I have replaced the drain filter of this BMW X5 with a new one, and the drain holes inside the drain have also been dredged again.
The maintenance cost of this BMW X5 has exceeded 1,000 yuan, and the price of the module has already approached this figure. Including the maintenance man-hours, it is really not a small sum.
The main culprit of all this is the leaves and debris that are often ignored.

There are still many drainage systems in cars, and none of them should be underestimated. As long as rainwater accumulation occurs, it will inevitably cause certain economic losses, which is just a difference between big and small. Many people often ignore these drainage systems. The rainy season is right, and it is really necessary to pay attention to the cleanliness of drainage pipes.
