Ignoring the warning of the engine lights and the lack of antifreeze lights, LP drove the car home to the parking space and then went home and told me, “the car is on!” .

As soon as I thought, there was something wrong with the BMW 320i again. I thought that over the years, I broke down on the road from time to time, showing us helpless on the road again (see my previous post), but I immediately turned happy. This time there was an accident near home. It didn’t cause much delay to people, which is also a good thing-Ah Q spirit!

So I went downstairs and opened the cover of the machine. It turned out that the upper water pipe burst and fell off, causing the antifreeze to spray out, and some of the liquid was spilled on the hot engine to form water vapor, which formed a rising fog under the action of cold air in winter. shrouded in the front half of the car like white smoke.

That night immediately sent the photo to my car maintenance and repair master, this master’s shop is relatively close to my home, less than 5 kilometers, he and I also have nearly 10 years of friendship. He said that the upper pipe had burst and could not be used any more. It had to be replaced. So he made an appointment to come by my house with a new pipe and two new buckets of antifreeze the next morning. He didn’t have to go to the store (actually, he couldn’t, because the antifreeze had almost run out).

The next morning the maintenance process is very fast, because it is a buckle structure, the upper pipe is easy to replace, and then add antifreeze, start the engine, everything OK! Just waiting for the water temperature to come up, waiting for almost half an hour, the upper pipe has been very hot, but the sewer pipe is still cold, and the electronic fan has no movement. My 320i doesn’t have a water thermometer, and the master doesn’t bring a diagnostic computer. I don’t know what the water temperature is, but according to his experience, the thermostat must be broken, so he asked me to turn off the engine immediately and drive to his store to check it out when the car was cold in the afternoon. Because it is not far away, it should not be a problem to drive through in this way.

When I was free in the morning, I searched the Internet to check the water temperature, but it was not detailed. After many times of groping, I finally found a way to check the water temperature. So when I went to the repair shop in the afternoon, the water temperature showed all the time, so I was very confident and didn’t worry too much. Before I left, the water temperature was 40 degrees. By the time I got to the repair shop, the water temperature had already shown 105 degrees, but the fan did not turn and the sewer was still cold, so I went on the shelf and replaced the thermostat. -the process doesn’t show. Anyway, I didn’t do it myself.

After changing the thermostat, when the water temperature reaches 85-90 degrees, the sewer begins to heat up, indicating that the thermostat is in operation. When the water temperature shows 101 degrees, the fan immediately turns, and the water temperature drops slowly to about 95 degrees. So I drove to the expressway for half an hour, and the water temperature was basically kept between 95 and 98 degrees, indicating that it was normal. It turned out that the old thermostat was broken and could not be opened at high temperature, and the antifreeze could not dissipate heat through the radiator water tank, resulting in higher and higher internal water temperature of the engine, increasing pressure, and the upper water pipe could not bear such great pressure and high temperature, so it was deformed and burst. This is the reason why the thermostat failure caused the upper water pipe to burst.

Total cost: 170 yuan for upper water pipe, 160 yuan for antifreeze, 280 yuan for thermostat, 90 yuan for working hours, a total of 700 yuan for your reference.
