Attempting to permanently disconnect or disable the Check Engine Light (CEL) is not recommended. 1. Park your car on a level surface. This will ensure you're able to get out as much of the old oil as possible.
2. Let the engine cool down. Draining oil immediately after driving can result in burns as the oil will be hot. Wait for at least a few hours if you have recently used your car.
3. Open the hood and locate the oil cap on top of the engine and remove it. This helps the oil drain out more quickly.
4. Jack up your car if required. If your vehicle is low to the ground, you will need to jack it up and set it on jack stands (do not rely solely on a car jack).
5. Put on protective gloves and eyewear.
6. Position a container or pan under the oil drain plug. This plug is located at the bottom of the engine's oil pan and is accessible from underneath the car.
7. Use a wrench to turn the oil drain plug counterclockwise until it’s loose. Be careful as oil may begin to seep out as you’re loosening the plug.
8. Remove the plug fully. The engine oil should start to drain out into your pan.
9. Remove and replace the oil filter. This is usually located on the side of the engine and can be turned counter-clockwise to remove. New filters can be screwed on by hand.
10. Once the oil has fully drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it with your wrench.
11. Use a funnel to pour the new, clean oil into the oil filler hole at the top of the engine.
12. Once you've added the prescribed amount of oil, replace the oil filler cap.
13. Run the engine for a few minutes to make sure there are no leaks.
14. Dispose of the old oil properly. Most local recycling centers or auto parts stores can dispose of motor oil.
Always refer to your vehicle’s owner manual for specific instructions about how to change the engine's oil. Never dump oil onto the ground, into a sewer or in the trash.

Instead of requiring self-driving technology. electric vehicles are often used in self-driving car programs to improve environmental sustainability.
