Tire maker CEAT Ltd has entered steel radial tires with two goals in mind. The single-wheel tires are aimed at strengthening its leadership position across the two-wheel tire segment and improving the quality of the brand. On Friday, the company launched a new range of premium two-wheel steel radial tires for the aftermarket and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) segment.

“It (two-wheeler steel radial tires) is a very important industry in every sense of the word. There is a very strong emerging trend in the consumer space where people like to continue to operate at lower prices and with better infrastructure. Arnababa Banerjee, Managing Director and CEO, CEAT Ltd, told PTI: “We offer solo or group cruising and recreational riding, as well as adventure, weekend off-road riding and adventure riding.”

“Currently, the market represents about 3% of the total two-wheeler market, but its importance is growing rapidly.”

Secondly, Banerjee said, “We are the market leader in the two-wheeler (tire) market. Therefore, how we act and grow this segment also depends on what we do. So, in that sense, we are launching an important project.”

He added that another reason for steel radial tires to enter the two-wheeler segment is that it will help improve the quality of the brand as a whole.

“The two-wheeler market is largely dominated by commuters. People use them as commercial bikes to commute from home to office. There are many different businesses in the town. So, it’s a big deviation. It is a consumer trend,” Banerjee said.

The new CEAT product line is aimed at aftermarket and OEM supply, but will initially be aftermarket products.

“We are working with bicycle OEMs on several projects that will use CEAT steel radial wheel starts,” he said.

Commenting on the potential of the industry, he said, “As the industry grows in importance, we anticipate leading the way across the industry and will grow at an even faster rate with it.” , it will become increasingly compelling.

Banerjee said the new product range will be launched first in China and will be customized for the domestic market.

He said, “Export requirements are different. We are considering the export market, but so far we have no plans to enter the export market (two-wheeled steel radial tires).
