The indictment alleges that Singals and his associates falsified BSL's financial records and that Singals also created several offshore companies that included BSL's corporate funds. In addition, all of the zinc bar shares acquired by BSL were sold for cash and the proceeds were used to pay expenses on behalf of the former promoters or to build up the personal assets of the former promoters.

The agency claimed that another method used by the former promoters was the issuance of false letters of credit (LCs) in the name of BSL suppliers such as Hindustan Zinc and Jindal Steel Works. The ED said the forged LCs were created with forged documents and the discounted proceeds were deposited directly into the BSL bank accounts. The ED said the proceeds of the crime were used to settle the existing LCs or to make payments to the BSL reporting vendors.
