B48TU oil consumption, practice reveals true knowledge
In the last post, according to my theoretical assumption, I put the oil in the state of completely cold car, measured the initial amount of oil, and reasonably added oil according to the dipstick, which was put into practice today.
First of all, let’s talk about the so-called completely cold car state. My car is a 535Le hybrid, which can be driven purely by electricity. The engine has not been started for more than a week before the fuel is released today. In theory, the oil has already completely returned to the oil pan. The cylinder wall, crankshaft and each oil pipeline should have little or no residue under the action of gravity for a long time. At this time, it is more thorough to drain the fuel than to start the engine normally and drive in a hot car.
Practice has proved that my idea is correct.

For one thing, BMW’s oil pan design is still good, with the oil outlet in the lowest position, 90 °vertical, which is much more thorough than those designed next to it.
Because it is completely cold, the oil is also at room temperature and is not hot.
Put it at the end and let it drip clean.
At this time, it already has 5.5L.
When the oil is received to 5.5L, it spills over from the mouth of this measuring cup, so it is reasonable to guess that the initial oil should be at least 5.7L, which is equal to adding more when it leaves the factory (I have to say that BMW’s operation is real).
After putting the oil, tighten the oil release screw and prepare to add new oil.
It is suggested that the oil used in B48TU with particle trap had better choose LL-17FE+ certified 0W20GPF or LL-12FE 0W30GPF according to the manual requirements. I chose 0W20. After all, most of the mixers still consider fuel consumption and long-term performance, and occasional high-speed passion is enough to cope with.

5L engine oil, I need to add 4.75L first, and there is 0.25L left.
Start measuring the oil level
In the case of complete oil discharge, the addition of 4.75L shows the maximum.
Finally, the practice shows that the original oil of BMW B48TU is at least 5.7L. In the case of complete release, as long as 4.75L electronic oil dipstick is added, it will show the maximum (of course, there is also the factor of the car version, my version is 0322. The electronic fuel dipstick shows that the software level should be modifiable, which does not rule out the possibility that BMW has changed the maximum oil level in other later versions. So there is no guarantee that all cars with 4.75L will show the maximum, but at least my engine version can show that the actual oil demand of this engine is no more than 5L).
Summary: 1. In terms of the use environment of hybrid models, the engine can heat the engine at a constant speed and run again at about 1500 revolutions per hour, and the working condition is much better than the 525,530 pure fuel version, so I only add 4.75L oil according to the dipstick.
2, the pure fuel version can add 5L or 5.2L is enough, there is really no need to add 5.75L.
Adding more oil will do more harm than good, manufacturers and 4S may be confused. After all, adding too much oil is a kind of chronic damage to the engine, and it is not possible to have a problem three or four times. It is precisely after insurance that it begins to appear. At this time, the after-sales profit of 4S is coming. Therefore, as car owners, we should know more about our cars. I hope you can all do a good job in maintaining and repairing them.
