The real ownership of BMW began in 2015. At the beginning of the year, I bought both the F20 118i Movement (made in Regensburg, Germany) and the F30328i (made in the Tiexi Factory in Shenyang, China). These two cars made me know BMW and fall in love with BMW. In December 2020, I replaced my new car with 118, and even though I was reluctant to part, life always moved on. Today, I introduce 21 540i by comparing with the same door, which can be regarded as the feature of my post.

F20 is a very distinctive car with front vertical rear drive layout, long front and small space plus very supportive suspension, proudly maintaining its own sports characteristics, very suitable for shuttling in the city. But it is precisely because of the high cost and small space that the series stopped production, launched the historical stage, and was completely replaced by the front-drive car, and the sentence “this car is not practical” pulled many excellent models out of the world. There is no way, manufacturers build cars in order to make profits, naturally to meet the needs of consumers. Once again say “good-bye” to this little friend who accompanied me through many places!

The car was ordered at the end of August 2020. When I posted a post at that time, many friends should have seen that the process of waiting for the bus was fine, and I didn’t feel lovesick. The 540i has become a magic car by word of mouth, and it is true that it is difficult to buy (only older stores often have a quota), long waiting time, less discount, and poor second-hand preservation rate. The 540i basically accords with all the characteristics of the magic car, .

I think BMW’s car-building philosophy is changing from the F chassis to the current G chassis. This can be seen from the interior and appearance. In the past, BMW first built a car, and then took into account the needs of luxury brands to carry out relevant transformation and design. Now BMW wants to build a luxury brand car. The former BMW has distinct characteristics, strong sense of sports, easy to drive is his characteristics, but the interior is flat, turn heavy and so on, causing some buyers, especially female buyers, to pass BMW easily. I feel that BMW’s strategy now is: the volume of models should try their best to seize the market, do not differ too much from other luxury brands, as for the essence of BMW in the past, let minority 4-series, 8-series to selectively present.
The car has now driven more than 1000 km, and the two cars are very different. first of all, the 21 5-series sitting posture is much higher, although you can get a similar sitting posture after lowering the seat, but the overall height is much higher than the 3-series, and the center of gravity is also high. You are used to driving the 3-series and then sitting on the 540 with a sense of suv. But now most drivers like to sit high, adjust their seats to their heads and watch the hood open, as do most of the people I meet.
The sound of starting is still very good, by contrast, 328 is really a tractor, very real and classy but not noisy, in line with the positioning of the 5 series, unlike those 4-cylinder cars that change exhaust, it is not only disturbing but also very low,6 cylinder is different. The sound of the engine is also very good, much better than the 328 N20.
Power, 340 horsepower, must be excess, but training is a typical comfort orientation, speed is very linear improvement, coupled with very excellent nvh, sensory or 328 is more fierce, 328 power is very direct, the initial stage is very fierce, the original factory 0-1005.8s is not a general generation.
What needs to be pointed out is the sense of procrastination. I haven’t fully understood the rules and techniques to avoid it. Sometimes there are obvious setbacks at low speed, and yes, the same is true for cylinder 6. This does not exist on the 328, even if it is a six-year-old car.
I am very confused about this point, the same 8at, since the F-era cars can do very smoothly, why the G-era but a setback? Guess 1: in order to save fuel, adjust part of the tooth ratio or logic; guess 2: although the 21 540i is made in Germany, it is still a Chinese special car in a sense, because the 48v light mix is cut off, regardless of whether the 48v light mix is good or bad, it is possible that the BMW does not have too much effort under the driving program without a 48v light mix system.
The steering feel is also the same. 328 has the illusion of mechanical hydraulic power, which is very direct and heavy, and the road sense is clear. The 540 steering is obviously much lighter, retaining a little sense of road, and the accuracy can not be much worse.
There is a big difference between sound insulation and shock absorption, which is a complete victory at 540, because there are some ups and downs or pits that make 328 very bumpy when driving repeatedly on the same road, but it is really an understatement to 540. Calm, in line with the tone of the 5 series, 328 shock absorption in some big pits or bad roads will be very difficult, there will often be shock absorbers hit the bottom of the situation, very low grade. But turn the corner and change lane that is 328 win, which is normal, after all, 5 series is 5 series, comfortable business is his position, even 540 is the same, do not over-deepen him. By the same token, his sound insulation is very good, the advanced sense is really excellent, and the high-speed wind noise is well suppressed.
Speaking of interior, I personally feel very good, better than the three big screens of the A6 (that thing is unstable), and better than the materials used by Mercedes-Benz (you can feel it with your hands). The center console and the door panel are covered with senstac imitation leather, and the window buttons are also made of metal. The seat is a leather seat with a diamond lattice of nappa (no difference with the 7 series, the low-equipped X5 and X6 are not this kind of chair). It is no problem to ride for a long time. The rest is the atmosphere lamp, compared to the majority of netizens like lavender and green, I prefer bronze, and mocha seats match very well. Shortcomings, mainly air-conditioning panels, superfluous touch screen, every operation to look down at, and seems to crack in a few years.
