First of all, my car is the 528 special edition of the new five-series G38.
The car has been picked up for more than a year and has been running for almost 24000. I have just finished the second guarantee sent by 4S. When I bought the car, 4S sent three years and 60,000 years of basic maintenance, only engine filter, no other items, such as air filter, air conditioning filter, spark plug. According to 4S, these two guarantees all need to be replaced. There is also a cleaning project, for people I like to toss about so much, of course, it will not be changed in 4S.
I learned that 4S air filter replacement costs 420 yuan per hour, which is acceptable. Air conditioning filter costs 999 yuan, you read it correctly, it is 999 yuan, it’s a little expensive, the two items add up to 1500 dollars.
After thinking about it, change it by yourself, because the air conditioning filter of the pony in the past is self-made, so some experience, mainly love to toss about.
First of all, I bought the two filter elements from a self-owned store and an official flagship store on the east. The air conditioner filter is Mahler and the air filter is man brand. Anyone who has any common sense of vehicles should know these two brands. The two add up to only $320.

Again, my car is 18 G38 528LI special edition, you should pay attention to the model when you buy it, but as far as I know 530LI and 540LI are also the same, I do not know the axis. I buy the air filter model C28038, it is understood that C28037 can also, the model is different may be related to the origin, anyway, C28038 can be a perfect fit.

First of all, let’s talk about the tools that need to be prepared. of course, you need to have tools first. These tools are available in roadside car maintenance shops or car washers, and it’s okay to borrow them while washing your car. Of course, you can also prepare a set of your own. To put it this way, you can only buy a set of tools for 200 to 300 yuan, and you can earn back the cost of a replacement.

First of all, let’s talk about air-conditioning filtering. this is a little simpler than air filtering. just prepare an inner hexagon screwdriver (note that it is plum blossom hexagonal, also known as star inner hexagonal). The size model seems to be T15, anyway, there is a complete set of screwdriver tools like the picture below.

This set of screwdrivers for air conditioning filter elements is usually about 20 yuan a set. Other tools are needed for air filter elements.

The air conditioner is filtered under the glove box of the co-driver, and there is a cover that needs to be removed. It is not easy to see. It is installed upside down. It can be touched by hand, and there is a buckle on the left and right sides. If you need to twist it and pull it out, you can take the cover off. If you take it off, it is best to remove the mat first. It may get stuck.

The screws are loosened. After the cover is removed, see the two plastic clasp screws on the lower corner of the picture. Pay attention to the white plug above, this is the foot lighting, there was a cable plugged into it, remember to unplug it. To remove the cover.

This is the light cord plug, which is plugged into the white socket of the picture above. I forgot to shoot when I was plugged in, and I remembered it only when I pulled it out.

After the cover plate is removed, there are two screws in the middle. Remove it with the inner hexagon screwdriver mentioned above. Be careful not to lose it. This screw is not easy to match. Notice that there is a white plug on the left. It should be a sensor head to sense the air quality. I don’t know. Anyway, you have to unplug it to remove the cover. This pipe is soft and easier to pull out. Remember to attach the cover plate when you install it.

After the cover plate is removed, you can see the air conditioning filter element, the front and rear two, pull it down and remove it.

The top is removed, it is already very dirty, and there is still a smell, no wonder the air conditioner has a strange smell, it really needs to be changed. The following is new. I don’t know the difference if I don’t look at the new one.

The original car was taken down on the left and the new one on the right. The two brands are the same, both are Mahler, the model is different, the original car is LAK995, the new one is LAK1402/S, it is estimated to be related to the origin, who knows why please let me know. Compared the two, there is not much difference, but the new one seems to have less carbon content, not as black as the original car. The weight and workmanship are about the same.

Don’t talk about how to put it back, just pay attention to the positive and negative sides of the filter element, pay attention to the arrow in the picture above, the arrow is facing the front of the car.

Air filter replacement is relatively troublesome, in fact, it is not troublesome to replace, mainly it is more troublesome to remove it, and several professional tools are needed.
The air is filtered in the front engine compartment. Please study by yourself how to open the engine cover.
First, we need to talk about the tools that need to be prepared. we need to prepare two tools, one is the same hexagonal screwdriver inside the plum blossom as the air conditioner filter above, and we need a T20 model (this had better be a socket wrench, because there are two screws in it and a longer screwdriver is needed. So the general kind of set screwdriver can’t reach it, even if it’s barely enough to dismantle it. And 11mm’s socket wrench. First of all, the picture above:

It is more intuitive to look at it this way. Before dismantling this, you need to dismantle the diagonal beam in the picture. I don’t know what this beam is called, so let’s call it Liang.
As for why the beam was dismantled, it was mainly because it blocked the lid of the air filter. If you don’t remove it, you can’t remove the cover under the screwdriver pictured above. 11mm socket wrench is mainly used to disassemble this beam, the red circle in the above picture of this screw, only need to remove one screw, the other side of the screw does not need to be removed, remove the top a little break can remove the lower cover.

On this screw, need a little effort to remove, rest assured to remove, observed, 4S maintenance is also the same.

Remove the beam above and remove the six screws in the yellow circle. This will use the hex screwdriver inside the plum blossom mentioned above.
Because I forgot to take a picture after dismantling the beam, so I’ll use this picture that hasn’t been removed yet. There is a screw under the yellow circle on the beam.

After these screws are removed, the cover plate can be opened with a seam. The air inlet pipe connected behind the cover does not need to be tube, because the cover does not need to be removed. The air filter element can be removed by breaking a seam. Because my hands were dirty behind me, I didn’t take photos with my mobile phone.

The front is okay, but the back is very dirty. It can indeed be replaced.

Nothing can be seen from the model, nor can I understand it. This should be from BMW’s original factory, or ask another OEM product. Anyway, the MAN brand will not be so bad.

How to remove it, how to install the new filter element, and how to install the cover and beam is not going to talk about. The main thing is that I didn’t take pictures either, so I just put it back on the way I took it apart.
