However, when components like piston rings and cylinder walls are worn or damaged, they cannot seal properly. This allows the combustion gases to "blow by" the piston and enter the crankcase. Once in the crankcase, these gases can mix with the engine oil, leading to reduced lubrication, increased oil consumption, and potential engine overheating.
