High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is praised for its strong chemical resistance, durability, and recyclability, making it a popular choice for containers, piping, and in construction. However, it has its limitations. HDPE is not very UV resistant without stabilization; prolonged exposure to sunlight can degrade the material. It also has a relatively narrow temperature range, typically between -100°C to 120°C, beyond which it may lose structural integrity. HDPE struggles under high stress or load for extended periods, leading to material fatigue. Moreover, although it resists many chemicals, certain solvents and oils can cause it to swell and lose its shape. These limitations necessitate careful consideration of use environment and potential long-term exposures to stressors.
