The Chevrolet Corvette takes its eighth generation, the C8, and abandons its front-engine architecture for a mid-engine layout in enthusiast fashion. Why is it so important? Because mid-engine cars offer the prospect of ideal weight distribution.
Changes in direction and rotation around the axis occur most naturally with the engine positioned behind the seat and the driver closer to the front axle. The mid-engine architecture brings a host of changes to the car, which GM calls the fastest and most powerful entry-level Corvette in its 67-year history.
The 2020 Corvette Stingray is the tip of the C8 iceberg and will undoubtedly see higher-performance variants in the coming years - think Corvette Z06 or ZR1. But it all starts with the Stingray, production of which will begin in late 2019.
Engine vibration can have multiple causes. Worn or damaged engine mounts can lead to excessive engine movement and vibration. which is a serious issue requiring immediate attention. Another culprit could be faulty spark plugs. resulting in erratic engine performance and vibration. A worn. stretched. or unevenly worn belt can also contribute to engine vibration. Similarly. if tires are worn or unevenly worn. the vehicle may vibrate. Additionally. dirty or clogged injectors can hinder proper engine function and result in vibration. Issues with the ignition system can also cause an unsteady running engine and subsequent vibrations. It is advised to seek the expertise of a professional mechanic in order to accurately diagnose and address these issues for a solution.
The 6.9L IDI. also known as the International Direct Injection engine. was first introduced in 1983 and was used in Ford trucks until 1987. Despite being around since 2000. it remains highly regarded for its reliability and simplicity. This V8 engine from Internationallalina Harvester now Navistar International was a game-changer for diesel engines in light trucks. It provided higher fuel economy and torque compared to gasoline engines without sacrificing durability or ease of maintenance. While not as powerful as more modern diesel engines. their mechanical injection systems make them easier to maintain than electronically controlled ones. With proper maintenance. these engines can last up to 20.000 miles or more. However. there are some limitations to consider. such as lower horsepower and torque compared to newer models. as well as the potential issues with injection pumps and electric heat plugs. Overall. the IDI is a reliable option for those seeking a diesel engine for work or moderate towing needs.
