The most expensive yarn in the world is often considered to be Vicuña yarn. Vicuñas are rare South American animals, relatives of the llama and alpaca, found in the high Andes of Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. Their wool is extremely fine and soft, measuring about 12 micrometers in diameter, making it the finest and most luxurious natural fiber in the world. The harvesting process of Vicuña wool is meticulous and sustainable, involving the traditional Chaccu method of rounding up the wild vicuñas for shearing and then releasing them back into the wild. Due to their scarcity and the labor-intensive process to collect and prepare their wool, Vicuña yarn commands extremely high prices, often reaching thousands of dollars per pound.

If caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) comes into contact with the skin, immediate action is required to minimize harm. First, remove any contaminated clothing carefully to avoid further skin contact. Rinse the affected skin area thoroughly with running water for at least 15 to 20 minutes to dilute and wash away the chemical. Do not use vinegar or other acids in an attempt to neutralize the caustic soda, as this can cause a chemical reaction that generates heat, potentially causing further injury. After rinsing, it's advisable to seek medical attention, especially if the skin irritation persists or if the chemical has contacted sensitive areas such as the eyes or mouth. Medical professionals may provide treatments such as specific ointments to assist in healing. Remember, prevention through the use of protective gear is key when handling caustic chemicals.
