Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer known for its remarkable balance of chemical and physical properties, making it highly versatile in various applications. Chemically, PP is resistant to most acids, bases, and chemical solvents, which allows it to be used in containers for the food industry and chemical processing equipment. It doesn't react with water, detergents, or a wide range of chemicals, making it a stable choice for packaging. Physically, PP boasts a high melting point (about 160°C), making it suitable for applications that require sterilization at high temperatures. It's also known for its stiffness and strength, retaining these properties even when flexed, which is why it's often found in automotive parts, industrial fibers, and household goods. Despite its resilience, PP is also lightweight, enhancing its appeal for manufacturing. Additionally, its ability to be polymerized in multiple configurations lends it a range of physical textures, from tough and rigid to soft and flexible. However, it has poor resistance to UV light and can degrade if not appropriately stabilized, limiting its outdoor applications without special treatment.
