The tendency of fibers to wrinkle depends on their inherent material characteristics and the structure of the fabrics they compose. Flexible fibers, such as those in lightweight and stretchable fabrics (e.g., spandex blends), can actually resist wrinkling to some degree due to their ability to stretch and bounce back to their original shape. This elasticity allows the fabric to maintain a smoother appearance under stress or after being folded. In contrast, rigid fibers, like pure cotton or linen, lack this elasticity and thus are more prone to creasing. However, the overall fabric construction and treatment also play crucial roles. For instance, tightly woven fabrics made from flexible fibers may still wrinkle if the fiber is not inherently elastic or if the fabric has not been treated with wrinkle-resistant finishes.
