A car engine converts the chemical energy in gasoline into mechanical energy through a process known as internal combustion. This process involves several stages:
1. Intake: The engine draws in a mixture of air and fuel (gasoline) into the cylinder.
2. Compression: The piston compresses this mixture, making it highly explosive.
3. Ignition: The spark plug ignites the compressed fuel-air mixture, causing it to burn rapidly. This burning process creates a high-pressure gas that drives the piston downward.
4. Exhaust: Finally, the exhaust valves open, and the leftover gases are pushed out by the piston moving back up.
The down-and-up movement of the pistons, driven by this process, turns the crankshaft, which is connected to the vehicle's transmission and ultimately turns the wheels.
