Q
do electric vehicles have catalytic converters
I'm a seasoned industrial engineer with a keen interest in machine learning. Here to share insights on latest industry trends.
Electric vehicles (EVs) do not have catalytic converters because they do not emit exhaust gases. Catalytic converters are used in internal combustion engine vehicles to reduce harmful emissions by catalyzing a redox reaction. Since EVs run on electricity stored in batteries and do not burn fuel, they do not produce the tailpipe emissions that catalytic converters are designed to treat. However, hybrid vehicles, which combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor, still require catalytic converters for the engine part of their system.
