No fence sitting, going ahead with EV tech development: Bosch
German auto parts giant Bosch today said it will continue to develop electric vehicle technology in India despite the lack of a clear policy in the sector.
The company showcased the electric vehicles offered by Bosch here today and set up a new project ‘Agile Project House’ to develop India-specific solutions for the electric vehicle segment.
Soumitra Bhattacharya, Managing Director, Bosch Ltd. and Chief Technology Officer, Bosch Mobility Solutions India “Policies will continue to evolve. This industry cannot get everything from day one.” Jan Oliver Roehrl expresses similar thoughts that solutions must continue to be developed.
“As a Tier 1 supplier, we have a responsibility to come up with solutions. We don’t wait until policies are implemented to develop new solutions. We can’t be the school that rides the wall.” He said.
Bhattacharya said that while the company will focus on electric vehicles, it will continue to provide solutions in the internal combustion engine segment, where it will continue to dominate in the medium term.
Elaborating further on the electrical segment, he said that the company is offering scalable solutions from 0.25 kW to 300 kW for all segments from two-wheelers to commercial vehicles.
Bosch strongly believes that its current and future portfolio of electric vehicle solutions will be one of the key contributors to the country’s vibrant ecosystem. Bhattacharya said.
He added that India is at an early stage. Charging infrastructure is still in the developmental stage and there is still a lot of work to be done to build the necessary ecosystem.
On Agile Project House, he said that the program is specifically for electrification projects in India.
Bhattacharya said, “This will enhance local capacity to deliver customized technology for flexible, cost-effective and efficient urban mobility.”
The new organization works on prototyping and system integration to get electric vehicles on the nation’s roads.
