Precipitated barium sulfate

Precipitated barium sulfate is a white precipitate generated by the reaction of barium ions and sulfate ions in solution. It is stable and almost insoluble in water, ethanol and acid, but soluble in hot sulfuric acid.   Basic Information   The appearance of precipitated barium sulfate is white amorphous powder, with a relative density of 4.50 (15°C) and a melting point of 1580°C. Due to its high refractive index (1.63~1.65), it appears whiter in color and has a certain covering power. It is almost insoluble in water, ethanol and acid, and soluble in hot sulfuric acid. It can be easily mixed with potassium permanganate , calcium carbonate or metal nitrate to form mixed crystals. It can be reduced to barium sulfide with carbon at high temperatures. It is an important basic chemical raw material. Its main uses are: used as raw material or filler for paints, coatings, inks, plastics, rubber and batteries; surface coating agent for printing paper and coated paper; sizing agent for the textile industry. ; Used as a clarifying agent in glass products, it can defoaming and increase gloss. It can also be used as a protective wall material to protect against radiation. It is also used in industries such as porcelain, enamel and dyes, and is also a raw material for the manufacture of other barium salts.   Product Usage   It is used as a raw material or filler in paints, inks, plastics, advertising pigments, cosmetics, and batteries. It is used as both a filler and a reinforcing agent in rubber products . It is used as a filler and weighting agent in polyvinyl chloride resin. Surface coating agent for paper and coated paper, sizing agent for textile industry. Glass products are used as clarifiers, defoaming and increasing gloss. It can be used as a protective wall material against radiation. Also used in ceramics, enamels, spices and pigments industries. It is also a raw material for manufacturing other barium salts – powder coatings , paints, marine primers, ordnance equipment paints, automotive paints, latex paints, interior and exterior wall building coatings, which can improve the light resistance, weather resistance, chemical and electrochemical corrosion resistance of products and products. Decorative effect, enhance the impact strength of the coating . The inorganic industry is used as raw material for the manufacture of other barium salts such as barium hydroxide , barium carbonate, barium chloride, etc. It is used for priming and preparing printing paints when producing wood grain printing boards in the wood industry. In organic synthesis, it is used as a green pigment and lake production body filler.   Printing – Ink filler can resist aging and exposure, increase adhesion, and make the color clear, bright and non-fading. Fillers – tire rubber, insulating rubber, rubber sheets, tapes, and engineering plastics can enhance the anti-aging performance and weather resistance of the product. The product is not easy to age and become brittle, and can significantly improve the surface finish and reduce production costs. As a powder coating The main filler is the main means to adjust the bulk density of the powder and improve the powder loading rate. Functional materials – papermaking materials (mainly paste products), flame retardant materials , X-ray protection materials, battery cathode materials, etc. They can all show unique properties and are an indispensable and important part of related materials. Other fields – ceramics, glass raw materials, special resin mold materials, precipitated barium sulfate with special particle size distribution and titanium dioxide are compounded, which have a synergistic effect on titanium dioxide, thereby reducing the dosage of titanium dioxide.   preparation   How to produce precipitated barium sulfate? Barium sulfate will form a precipitate of barium carbonate with barium ions. There is a balance between barium ions and carbonate in the water. If there is a precipitate of barium sulfate in the water, there will also be a balance between sulfate and barium ions. The two equilibria interact, although barium sulfate is less soluble than barium carbonate. However, since carbonate radicals will react with barium ions to form a precipitate of barium carbonate, the precipitate-dissolution balance of barium sulfate will shift and part of the barium sulfate will be redissolved in the water. In this way, the sulfate radicals cannot be removed, so the barium sulfate must be filtered out first. Only then can sodium carbonate be added. The barium sulfide solution is mixed with the Glauber’s salt solution after removing calcium and magnesium. The reaction is carried out at 80°C to form a precipitate. After suction filtration, water washing and pickling, the pH value is adjusted to 5 to 6, and then It is obtained by filtering, drying and crushing. Precipitated barium sulfate can also be produced by reacting barium yellow halide with Glauber’s salt solution.
